I've had a lot of questions about the Brevard Meetups and whether or not folks are getting the notifications so I thought I would put something up here and see if everyone concerned is getting the notifications. Also, Caroline suggested Parrish Medical Center 951 N. Washington Ave. Titusville, Florida 32796 as a venue for the meetups in the event we cannot use the Porcher House, which we can't do when Mike is unavailable. Parrish has meeting rooms with wi-fi and projectors. Please join in the discussion as to whether or not you are receiving this notification as a member of the Brevard Drupal group and whether or not Parrish as a facility is a viable option for you or if you have knowledge of a restaurant or other facility that can accommodate our group preferably in a centralized location for free. M y apologies for the delay. Parrish is not available this month on Tuesday or Thursday nights. If we can produce a 501-3c and a good explanation on several forms I might be able to get us past the 5 member meeting room committee that votes on whether we can meet or not each month, If we don't have the 501-3c they charge a lot for the rooms. If we can get past some of the hurdles, it would be a great spot. I just need to know from Mike on what our status is.
So... no Tuesday meetup. Our speakers are now out of town. That leaves finding out where to meet on Thursday.

I must be missing something obvious. Why not use a public library, with hours until 8:00 PM some days and WiFi? Are they just all booked for meeting rooms and carols?

As we discussed at one of our previous meetups, there are three who show up almost every week and they are each coming from the North end of the county.
Generally for our "official" paperwork, we have partnered with the Central Florida Computer Society, a 501-c3 organization.
Hewie Poplock has been our contact with them. I can contact them and ask if we could fall under their umbrella for something like this as well.
I am not opposed at all to meeting in Titusville. I also have been considering the Pizza Gallery and Grill in Viera.
They have a room that can be closed off, but I haven't had a chance to speak to them. We would need to bring our own projector though and probably promise to eat and drink while we were there.

Use of Library for Meetups
I called the Merritt Island library previously and they said that on Monday and Thursday they're open until 8:00 PM, and said that the Conference Room (with wi-fi) would be open until 7:45 PM on those days. I'm not sure about the projector, they may have one available.

We don't necessarily need a project or wifi to have a productive meeting.

The important thing is to just get together. Honestly, if it is a place with food where we can just talk, I would be more than happy with that.

Beefs and gratuity
New info on meeting room at Beefs in Titusville. First I was told there was no charge except that there was a 20% gratuity required for the server. Now I am being told the minimum charge is $50 to be divided up among the attendees or there is a 20% gratuity added to each individual check and the person who reserves the room has to make up the difference. I am not in a position to do that. Let me know your thoughts. I need to call and confirm the room reservation between 2 - 4 pm. today if we want it. I was not getting a good vibe from the woman I spoke with so if anyone has any other ideas please speak up. Maybe we should try Ryan's again.
This might be an unpopular
This might be an unpopular bit of feedback, but whatever. Lots of other Drupal meetups are allowing for remote access. We are, after all, in a digital business. Seems strange that Florida meetups cannot do the same.
Using places without WiFi and noisy restaurants or bars for meetups isn't conducive to remote participation, or sometimes on-site participation either. If you don't care about ever welcoming remote members, no problem. If you do, would be good to be mindful of the location for that reason.
There are at least 2 community college (BCC) campuses in Brevard County (Cocoa and Titusville), and also UCF (Cocoa). Certainly there is meeting space available there, yes? Library? Probably open late, too.
If not, ask the Zen Buddhism complex right there by the Cocoa campus. You could have a meetup where all are enlightened...one way or another.

Lately our meetups haven't been very tightly structured or followed any set agenda, and often we don't have reliable wifi to encourage remote participation.
Brevard isn't like the other Florida groups in that we don't have a set place that we meet regularly.
I know you often ask for remote participation, but I don't see it as feasible. Not because we don't want to, but often we aren't able to.
There is something to be said for the face-to-face and in-person interaction that comes from meeting as a group in a physical location. We would really like for you to join us. I know you can bring some knowledge and share some things with the group.

No, I am not now in the area. When I was, the Brevard meetups were held in Melbourne, and the Orlando meetups in Altamonte Springs. Both at least an hour away, and neither places that I go for any other reason.
Funny, now that I am away, you all have the meetup within walking distance to my house! :-)

It would have been great if you were and could have made it to the meetup. Don't worry about "bugging" me about remote participation. As I've said before, I'm not against it in any way. I will see what I can do about it on Thursday with a Google + hangout. I imagine there will be fairly reliable wifi access.

Push comes to shove, you can always meet at the (public) Titusville marina picnic tables. They have WiFi and beer & snacks...not to mention a great view and cool breeze! Or, you can pickup (or have delivered) Papa Johns pizza, which is there on the corner, 'next door'.
They also have power there at the picnic tables, if I recall. You might want to bring a power strip. (Referring to the sheltered picnic tables on the side of building, going further toward the dog (?) park. Not the screened porch for slip guests.)
The night staff (dock master) are pretty cool. I'd suggest checking in with them first. They operate the store after hours, too.

Alternative Location
I am willing to host the meeting at my house in Titusville (7905 Windover Way [1.4 miles off of Hwy 50]). I have a room I use for my girl scout meeting and we have wireless internet. I would not have a cover fee and you can bring what ever you want share (food or drink). Also if you wish you can go swimming in the pool at the end of the meeting.

I live in the central part of the county, Indian Harbor Beach to be exact, and if the meetups were closer, say Viera, I could attend them and sometimes, even Cocoa, but I could never make any Titusville meetings as I am a full time student at BCC Melbourne and just don't have the time or gasoline to do that.
