Drupalcamp Ottawa - Are We There Yet?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

It's probably inevitable that sooner or later, Ottawa is going to have it's own Drupalcamp, perhaps with a major focus on government and NGOs. And because there's been quite a surge in government interest over the past year, I'm wondering whether this might be the year it happens.

With all the GoC buzz I'm pretty sure that there'd be a fair number of attendees, especially if it was held on a weekday (or Friday + Saturday), so the only question in my mind is whether there are enough people who could help with the organization of the event and could help with presentations and such.

Perhaps for a smaller initial event, an unconference approach would work well (i.e. sessions created ad hoc on the day of the event according to the interest of the attendees). That seemed to work pretty well for the first Drupalcamp in Montreal.

Still too early? Never gonna happen? Long overdue? What do you guys think?

I'm ready to put a little energy into organizing it, if there's enough interest.

Hi Lee,

We will be interested and happy to put in some time organizing the event as well. Lets see if there is enough interest in the community.

Thanks,

I'd lend a helping hand.

I'm a local Ottawa developer and think this would be great (it's a bit or a trek to TO for a Drupal Camp :).

I'd like to see that as well.

I'd like to see that as well. But keep in mind we're only two hours from drupalcamp Montreal.

I'd be more than happy to help organize this if it's deemed worthwhile.

What's involved in a Drupalcamp

This link provides a good summary of what's involved in putting on a Drupalcamp

uOttawa would definitely like to be involved in organizing a Drupalcamp.

we'd be interested as well

Hey Lee,

Thanks for getting this kick started.

We'd be interested in helping out. Possibly presenting a session or 2. Have done a ton in D7/i18n so likely very GoC friendly sessions to be had from that. I think we have already created over a dozen patches to various modules specifically for i18n support.

presenting, setup, sponsor

mbehiels's picture

All,
be interested in both helping set up and presenting if anyone wants to have a discussion on Drupal and front end design.
Could also sponsor hosting if required for the camp purposes.

I'd definitely come to Ottawa

pixelite's picture

I'd definitely come to Ottawa to sponsor/present! I'm sure there would be lots of others from Montreal who would attend as well, so I'll try and bring a car full of people.

Be interested (from Quebec city)

A focus on governement could bring some folks from Quebec city. Perhaps I could motivate some people to join a Drupal Camp in Ottawa.

As the DrupalCamp Montreal is in automn, perhaps DrupalCamp Ottawa in spring could be a good idea !

Nico.
PS: Some Web site from Quebec Gov use drupal: http://www.tableaudebordprojetsri.gouv.qc.ca/

Brief follow-up

mgifford's picture

We had a great turnout at the planning meeting. There are some notes there.

Will be great to have folks come in from Montreal & Quebec City who are keen on Drupal.

@nico059 can you list that site here - http://groups.drupal.org/government-sites#Canada - at the moment there is only one other listed.

The discussion thus far is to have it in February at the University of Ottawa.

I'm hoping that there will be a code sprint associated with it about:
