Building interconnected sites with HTML5's microdata

The session is presented in the "site building" track and is considered an intermediate level. Here is the description as posted on the DrupalCon Munich 2012 website:
We're moving to a new level of interconnectivity between Web pages. New Web development techniques are being pushed forward by search engines like Google and Bing, helping machines understand the connections and correlations between pages that only humans could process before. This is helping the search giants redefine search, but what a lot of people don't know is that microdata isn't just for SEO. It also gives you the tools to build cool mashups and linked data apps that use the Web as their database.
This session will show how you can use microdata for its SEO benefits, getting Rich Snippet results from Google and others (which increase click-through rates by 15-30%). You will then learn how you can reuse that effort to expose your data for mashups and build your own interconnected Web of sites.
Please, come ready for the Q&A session: if you have some technical difficulties or you want others drupalers opinions, this is the right time to ask for help and/or propose your solutions.
Few key info about the location:
- Thanks to Mark Weixel and Luis Bravo of UCIS (University of Pittsburgh), we can use room 4130 in Posvar Hall at University of Pittsburgh.
- here is Posvar Hall location.
- The best way to reach Room 4130 is to enter Posvar Hall from the Schenley Plaza side, take the elevators to the 4th floor, turn left after exiting the elevator and then continue down the hall. 4130 is the last room on the right, before the hallway turns.
- The room has wireless access, but attendees need to register before the meetup. Info about the registration process and registration link can be found here. Click on "access request" to load the form. Please enter "man8", "08/14/12" and "08/15/12" in the "Host Username", "Arrival Date" and "Departure Date" fields.
