Only local images are allowed. The inaugural Drupalcamp Atlanta is now open for registration, and will be held on Saturday, September 19th from 9am – 5pm on the beautiful campus of Kennesaw State University. Our mission and purpose is twofold: (1.) we want to educate people about Drupal and (2.) further evangelize Drupal within our geographic region.

Drupalcamp Atlanta is an attendee driven, completely volunteer initiative modeled after the open, participatory nature of barcamps. The schedule is catered towards a wide audience - developers, designers, marketing professionals, system administrators, non-profits, or technologists who have a like-minded interest or simply want to find out more about Drupal in general. The format will involve volunteer led breakout sessions, featured keynotes from prominent Drupal luminaries, and Birds of Feather (BoF) gatherings. We will offer two tracks – one geared towards beginners and the other for more intermediate to advanced Drupal users.

Here is the best part – registration, lunch, and beverages/snacks will be completely FREE thanks to some amazing sponsors. Oh, and there will even be an after-hours party and networking function immediately after the camp ends. If you live outside Atlanta make it a long weekend, and check out what the city has to offer.

However, we could really use your help. First and foremost, attendance will be capped due to facility constraints. We are highly encouraging everyone to register early to not risk getting shut out.

In addition, we need your expertise and are looking for presenters to submit sessions. We are particularly interested in speakers who could lead "Drupal 101" or beginner sessions.

Whether you are a savvy Drupal developer that wants to sharpen your skills or simply someone whose curiosity has been piqued by hearing about Drupal then this event is for you. For more information, please follow us on Twitter or by filling out the contact form on the Drupalcamp website. Mediacurrent is a proud sponsor and organizer of Drupalcamp Atlanta - we look forward to seeing you there!

I would like to take the time to host a breakout session (especially after i get back from DrupalCon Paris) that deals with the CASAA module that is due for full release on July 31st with drupal.org and is already in use in production for many currently running sites.

The module, itself, handles many ad serving and analytics system that already exist and with a full API and hook system allows, developers and admins to map taxonomy terms and URL paths to strengthen the use of newer behaviorally and usage targeted systems and get most out of their drupal site and the systems that they use to server ads and gather analytics metrics from their sites.

I've had the guilt put on me to attend my cousin's wedding the weekend of the camp. I've already registered so it looks like I'll have to drop out.

Are you saying that you are not able to go to DrupalCamp? If so, I need one more spot so I won't have to go alone.

Excellent camp

My daughter and I had a great time and learned a lot - many thanks to the organizers and presenters. We both were expecting a little more basic info in the introductory sessions, such as descriptions of the basic terms (node, module, panel, block, page, path, content type, etc.); without having a clear understanding of Drupal's use of those terms it was tricky to come up to speed.

Can someone recommend a good introductory text that defines the basic terms clearly?

I would highly endorse this video from Lullabot for what you are looking for:

And, yes, more introductory courses should be on the docket next year.

Good Luck,

I highly recommend the site lynda.com which is a site that offers online tutorial videos and training DVDs that focus primarily on design software, but there are a lot of other great topics, too, including Drupal. The online tutorials for Drupal Essential Training can be found here:

http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=620

Although lynda.com does charge a monthly fee for their online training, they do have some videos online in every series that are free to watch. The exact same videos offered in the online tutorials are also available on DVDs that they sell. Always very high quality stuff. There is no term commitment that I know of. In other words, you could pay $25 for a month of access and cancel just before your time was up.

There are also a lot of training videos that you can find on the web. Lullabot (lullabot.com) is certainly one of the industry leaders as far as Drupal training/tutorials go, as Dave mentions in his reply. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Heinz

I found Drupal by O'Reilly Press to be useful. The authors walk you through some cool but basic elements. It is a hands on site-building exercise. I don't recall needing any additional PHP.
