Leave a group Flickr style

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I'm still using OG on D6 and I have a use case where group owners should be able to leave their group(s) without hassle. The current solution is that users with node administer permissions can change the author of the og node and then the previous owner can leave the group. But since this requires some manual intervention, I'd like to create a contrib module which implements the Flickr way of handling this use case.

Before I describe the Flickr solution, I just want to reach out and ask if someone already knows of a og contrib module which may handle the 'owner wants to leave group' matter.

As mentioned in the Flickr help pages at http://www.flickr.com/help/groups/ , anyone can leave groups at any time:
- there is nothing special to be done when a normal member leaves
- when a group owner leaves, the ownership is passed on to the second longest member of the group
- if a group owner leaves a group as sole member of the group, the group will be deleted

Unless I happen to find a contrib module, I'll be implementing this in the next week.

I am also interrested in such module, but for 7.2 (if there is none available).
Btw, is it possible with Rules?

Rules

I have an idea how to make this contrib module, but didn't plan to use rules. Obviously if it makes sense, the module could be interfaced with rules. In any case, when the module is made, an upgrade to D7 should be much of a problem.

That is sad, because 7.2 is

That is sad, because 7.2 is gaining speed.
Rules could be a good idea, because there can be several conditions.
