Edit: if you're interested, there is a plan for the day which anyone can edit if they think it could be improved. Also, you should sign up for the dates you're interested in asap!
If you were at the last OxDUG, you might have heard heather talk about the Drupal Ladder project. Do enough people in OxDUG want to do this some time in the next month or two?
Primarily the Drupal Ladder is an attempt to get more people contributing to Drupal core; but for the individual Drupaler it also provides structured training to become a more skilful Drupal developer. So everybody wins.
The Drupal Ladder currently provides for two types of "sprints" (collaborative learning in groups and in pairs): learn sprints (starting with the very basics!) and issue sprints (tackling actual D8 issues, even if it's just repeating them and confirming you can do so.)
We could maybe do two or three sprints in a day, with time for chatting, problem solving and just playing with Drupal. I'd say we need about a dozen people, but I'd be happy to be corrected.
So: who's interested in taking part?
What if I said we might have a venue?
What if I said you might get lunch?
I've asked around at Torchbox and there's enthusiasm for hosting something maybe on a Saturday. Torchbox is 15 minutes' train ride out of Oxford, but for those who aren't sure about the journey, we might be able to get someone to meet people at the station in Oxford and come out with them.
At the other end of the train line, there's a 20-minute or so walk through a pretty Cotswold village and alongside a beautiful deer park. So it could also be a great way to get out into the countryside and enjoy the autumn. Sprints last around 1-2hrs, so I'm told - I've never done one! - so we could maybe fit in two or three rounds. On the way back, we can wait in one of Charlbury's amazing pubs until the train's about to turn up.
(It's also possible we could sort out a free lunch. I want to gauge interest first! And would people prefer e.g. we pay for train travel?)
Thoughts?

Drupal Ladder
Definitely up for taking part and happy to offer some travel from and to Oxford in the car if time, tide, people and arrangements co-incide.
I'm in!
With bells on.
Frontend developer and loud mouth
Did you say free lunch?
Sounds great!
Thanks for suggesting this. I was also inspired by Heather's talk at the OxDUG meetup and started thinking about how we might take this forward, but had only considered week day evenings in Oxford, which for me is increasingly difficult this academic year.
But a Saturday @ Torchbox would be lovely! So count me in (in principle).
Any idea of potential dates?
Let's see what Saturdays people are free
You should start signing up here: http://doodle.com/ikunpdbwxvhgawwe
Keep me informed when dates
Keep me informed when dates are decided - I'm interested if it fits into my diary!

Count me in
Definitely interested here

sounds cool :)
Great initiative
Depending on the date, if I am in Oxford, count me in !!
Sounds like a plan
I should be out from under this deadline by the end of the month, and it would be good to visit the old workhouse again *:)
Very much up for it.
Very much up for it.
Excellent
It's unlikely I'll be able to make it, I'm afraid, but it's a great initiative in a great place and I'm sure you'll all get some good work done. Look forward to seeing more of these.
Yes please
Assuming I can make the date this sounds great.
Hooray!
Yes, sounds like an excellent idea
Wow, what a response!
I never expected to get so many interested parties in such a short space of time!
What are the next steps, then? I guess we pick a date; and maybe people's names have to go into a hat too. We probably want a dozen attendees - does this sound about right?
Maybe the best next step is actually to get in touch with @techgirlgeek - she's the Captain for learn sprints. The temptation is to just go ahead, but I think some guidance will help.
Right, I'll do that and then I'll be back in touch. But hooray, thanks for the response, folks.

Woot!! So excited to hear
Woot!! So excited to hear this :)
Please do list your event too!
Also!
Please do join the Drupal Ladder group:
http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-ladder
And add this as an event when you have a date. I'd like to help promote it and get some awareness around it. I think I might be coming to Oxford again in October, I'd love to take part :)
Me too
It would be good to get the group involved in doing something together.
I'd be driving from Banbury area to Charlbury. Happy to give lifts if it helps anyone, and be a taxi between Charlbury station and Torchbox if weather is nasty.
Ditto
I certainly want to be involved if the dates work (which they should do with enough notice).
Started a wiki page
OK, I've started a wiki page. I've had to leave it half-written as we're about to have a server outage here, to prepare for electrical works over the weekend.
When the details are definite, I'll move it to an event and cross-post it into the Drupal Ladder group if that's OK.
Count me in
This sounds an excellent opportunity to get more experience of Drupal, and a later version to the one I'm using. Count me in (diary dates permitting). Off to add my availability to http://doodle.com/ikunpdbwxvhgawwe .
Richard
So far only four people have given dates: anyone else?
Come on, folks: if you really want to come to a Drupal Ladder sprint, then say when's best for you!

(I'll add my own once there's a few more people so I don't prejudice the result!)
Looks like Nov 3 is a goer
But please do keep adding your names if you can make that date - if we get more than 12 people we'll put names in a hat. I'll put a deadline on it when I get a chance to put an event up on g.d.o in this group and crosspost it to the Drupal Ladder group.
Argh! No! Not Nov 3.
I can't do November 3. I'll pick one of the other tied seven-attendee dates roughly at random.
Multiple dates?
Hi JP.
3rd Nov clearly does look good, but it seems like a long way off. Would it be possible to do one in October too? At least 7 people suggest they can make it on Sat 6th October, which is 2 weeks this Saturday.
If we get over subscribed this might also allow us to spread the sprinters and avoid turning people away...
just a thought...
Great minds think alike
Saturday 6 October it is: http://groups.drupal.org/node/255428
