At this month's meeting, there was a discussion of holding regular training. This might be a good place to discuss it further.
We could attempt to offer this as a 'free' introductory class.

The training materials and the class are open source, so I guess we can run the course, 'Sign up to be Drupal Guide', and Acquia will list it on their site.
