The team at This By Them worked with LA Drupal organizers to design and develop a tremendously useful conference website, and released it under the GPL (see case study). With the advent of modules such as Patterns and Features, we are now able to turn this site into customizable/configurable installation profile. After interfacing with developers behind the website and the modules, there definitely is a good deal of interest in creating a more flexible installation profile than what is currently available here - http://drupal.org/project/cod
Project schedule
Initial consensus is the development could be completed in a couple (preferably) in-person sprints. Being the case, I'm looking to assemble a core group in Los Angeles which will virtually collaborate with others via Drupal Dojo's Dimdim. Those interested in contributing to and/or supporting this project, please chime in.
Details to follow as we determine exactly what this will entail what resources will be needed.

Dmitri is already working on this!
Shoulda figured that Dmitri would already be doing this as part of the Badcamp upgrade. Guess we can check off this one off the list.
Thanks Dmitri!!

Cool!
I've not played with that site but the design looks awesome :)
The case study is a very good read, but having had a look at the module list, I don't see what you're using for user registration?
for the Drupal Camp in Essen,
for the Drupal Camp in Essen, Germany, we have started working with the Drupalcamp LA profile but we abundant it because there were to many difficulties.
They used Ubercart first and then got enough sponsors to have it for free. Because of that users which log in will automatically become an attendee. (registered user - registered with the camp) For that they are using a module. We're going to use Webforms for registration with the camp, because we will have about 100 - 120 attendees (to less to use Ubercart)
The real cool things at the LA site are the usage of flags with additional java code and views-list.tpls.

Here's a link to the profile I started for DrupalCamps. Code not released yet (I'm waiting on my CVS account approval) http://groups.drupal.org/node/72373
