D6 Rich Text Editors Not Saving Changes

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello all. Sorry I can't make the meeting in Ames this evening...I have a school board meeting and a user training session afterward. Hoping to make the next meeting in October.

I do have a problem that I can't find a solution for so I thought I would toss this out to the group and see if anyone can suggest a fix.

The issue is with Rich Text editing in Drupal 6. Lately I've had similar experiences with different editors (FCKEditor, CKEditor and TinyMCE) on different hosts and sites (about a 8-10 different circumstances/systems). The problem is that when I edit rich text in a WYSIWYG field (like a node body field) my edits are not always saved unless I switch to plain text or source display BEFORE clicking Save.

Like I said, this is happening with a number of different WYSIWYG editors, with different input formats selected, and different configurations for those formats.

On occasion, I will edit something and save it (anymore I copy the window to my paste buffer just in case) and the source or markup text displays briefly before the window closes, and my changes do get saved in those instances. However, if I click Save without first switching to "Disable rich-text" then 9 times out of 10 my edits are lost.

This is not a huge problem for me because I know how to work around it. However, it is a big problem for the dozens of content editors that I have trained in the last few years.

I've searched the internet for a solution to this (some point to Firefox as the problem) but I haven't found one to fit my circumstances just yet.

As always, anything you can suggest is much appreciated. Thanks and take care.

Hey Mark, I've had this issue

Hey Mark, I've had this issue a couple times and found the there to be a couple different causes.

  1. IE 9 - I've found there to be issues with IE 9 and older version of Tinymce
  2. Revision and permission. - If you have content set to create a new revision by default but users don't have permission to view/revert revisions it won't make the changes. (This seems like a bug to me)

I hope one of those helps you.

Not the Same

Unfortunately, I think I'm having a very different problem. I don't have revisioning on and the problem is not limited to IE.

In fact, a few moments ago I typed this same text in as the body of a new comment, right here on groups.drupal.org, and my comment was NOT saved when I hit 'Save'. I was, at that time, editing in whatever rich-text environment Drupal.org is using and did not switch out of it.

Anyway, thanks for posting and for the suggestions! Take care.

Anybody else got a suggestion or two?

Mark

If it's happening to you on

If it's happening to you on g.d.o as well (which doesn't have a WYSIWYG editor), perhaps you have a common browser extension that may be hijacking some drupal textareas or WYSIWYG javascript. If you disable all your browser extensions, does the problem go away? If the problem is not isolated to just your site, it feels like it would be something on your end.
