I am new to Drupal, so I apologize in advance if the answer to this question is simple and I am just missing something obvious.
I an struggling with the registration process. I have the three groups built. When a user fills out the registration form to become a member of the site, I want them to select one of the three groups to become a member and have them be assigned to that group upon administrator approval.
I have the user registration form fields customized to collect the various gym information, but can not figure out what field/machine name I need to use in order for the program to assign the new user the specified sport group they would like to join.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did you find a solution to this? I'm trying to do something similar (OG subscription request as part of Drupal user registration, pending admin approval for membership), and not sure of the best way, especially allowing for admin approval...
