As previously discussed in this group, we would like to try meeting in Hamilton.
I've been looking into a couple Hamilton venues. I have tentatively reserved The Winking Judge on third Thursdays. It seems like it could work however there is a significant caveat: no wifi. (I scanned when I was there and didn't get any open neighbouring wifi either). On the bright side, they have an exceptional selection of micro brews on tap. http://www.winkingjudge.com/
Another option that I have also tentatively booked for the third Thursday is The Perkins Centre, which has meeting rooms equipped with projector and wifi is provided (see attached photo). Location is also more favourable for those coming from St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, etc: http://goo.gl/maps/aZ4F3
The downside for this one is the lack of interesting beer nearby, afaik. However I have heard from friends that Rankin's Bar & Grill is a good spot.
I also have a couple other ideas which I haven't pursued as yet. Feedback welcome for the two venues so far: location, wifi vs. beer. Personally I'm leaning towards the Perkins Centre despite my appreciation for the taps at the Judge.

I tend to vote beer
I suppose it would depend on the subject we're talking about. If its something we can do with tethering I'm sure the Niagara crew would be cool trying out the Judge.

I can do my 'demystifying web security' talk without needing WiFi.
I figure since the out-of-towners will be the ones doing the extra driving, they should be the ones to decide. It looks like if you're coming from St. Catharines, then the Perkin's Centre is a 40min drive, while the Winking Judge is a 50min drive.

good beer + wifi + screen (but not available this month)

Slainte looks like it could be a venue in the hammer ftw. Their drink menu says "ask about our feature craft beers" which i thought was very encouraging. They have wifi and a presentation screen. They're close to downtown: http://goo.gl/maps/93Rmj
They're already booked on Oct 18. I've tentatively booked us on November 15.
So far the feedback is favouring the Judge for this month although we haven't heard from St Cats, etc.
Either one
Sorry for delay in responding. I'm okay with any of them. I think I've been to both Slainte and the Judge...both are great. Hopefully they have something other than "red" or "white" for wine choices. ;) I seem to remember there's parking in behind the Judge, is that right? Or is street parking on a Thursday night okay?
Your call on which place - Perkins or Judge. It's not THAT much further for us. I like to see easy parking than anything (ie, anything on Hess St. would be out, IMO).
What time on Thursday? To the Niagara crew...I'd be happy to drive if up to 3 of you would like to come with me. Let me know where we can park and fly.

It looks like the winking judge is surrounded with parking: http://goo.gl/maps/pTk95
It's about a block from the GO station so all that parking should be available in the evening no problem, and free parking should be easily found as well.

I'm in Hamilton but am not that concerned about the drive.
I like Slainte and I'm up for trying the Judge but could the noise be an issue?
Both the Winking Judge and
Both the Winking Judge and the Slainte venue have private rooms, which probably solves the sound issue. The Judge private room is the second floor. I haven't been on location for some time at Slainte but they're booked this Thursday anyway. I'll check it out and report here, but I think the private room is also a second floor there as well.
I'm thinking that Slainte could be best as they have wifi, projector, food, and craft beer selection. We're pencilled in for November 15.

Parking:
There is a school on Augusta street. I've parked there multiple time. I have had no problems
Slainte has lots of paid parking around it. If you park on hunter street (250m from door) its free. I think it starts after 6pm.
Venue/Private room:
Winking Judge - never been there.
Slaintes - they have an upstair and a downstairs. They rent out the top. There is only one washroom in the place, which is upstair, so you will still get foot traffic.
Slaintes sponsors our rugby team, so I know a lot about them. Come Christmas season, they book up pretty fast upstairs.
Not to purposefully be a
Not to purposefully be a contrarian, but I'd rather the Hamilton folks decide the venue, as they'll know what's best.
Also, holy crap! It's this Thursday?! Where did the time go? I'll need to arrange a ride with someone.
