A number of companies and organizations stepped forward with potential meeting locations, but to date we don't have anything for September with an evening time slot.
Options I can think of:
- Book a restaurant that has a room
- Charge a small admission to try to cover booking a room somewhere
- Seek room sponsorship from local companies
If we moved the meeting earlier we could meet at HDLabs (where the code sprint was held), but I suspect that would exclude a lot of people.
Other thoughts?
CHX (Károly Négyesi) had tentatively agreed to talk about Drupal 7, pending my reminding him and no calendar conflicts.

HDLabs, VHS, Work at Play
I think Work at Play had mentioned possibly being able to host (our space is pretty small/broken up and we don't have a projector, so it's not really ideal). They're just further east in Railtown/East Gastown. Maybe email Katherine and see if the offer is still good?
Alternately, the Dharma Labs space appears to be open Friday nights (of course I'm not sure everyone would want to use their Friday for that, but just putting it out there).
And there's also VHS http://vancouver.hackspace.ca/ if everyone is open to having it on a different night of the week (they have weekly events Tues/Thurs).
Yes, Work at Play contacted
Yes, Work at Play contacted me last month and I've been trying to follow up with them.
Thanks for Hackspace suggestion. After our IRC discussion I got in touch with them on IRC. They're a definite possibility. Is anyone following this discussion a member?
One vote against Friday meetings from me, unless it's something unique or purely social!
VHS
re: VHS i'm not exactly a member, but i lurk in their IRC/maillist and i've talked to them and they did offer the space up if we ever needed it.
Mondays are also a possibility
The lab is free until 8pm on Mondays. Saturdays are also a possibility - afternoons esp.

I checked out VHS last night.
I checked out VHS last night. The space is very cool for hardware hacking but would be a bit small for a presentation style meeting. The entrance is locked with no intercom, so someone would have to stand by the door or we'd need to do no late comers. Some people would also find the area uncomfortable.
I haven't heard back from any of the other potential locations so I'm going to take Scott up on the dharmalab offer. I've requested Monday September 28th 6pm - 8pm. If the tentative speakers aren't available that night, we'll do a co-work. If dharmalab isn't available we'll do a pub or coffee house night.
