It's almost that time again (already):

Our regular meetup is the second Monday of every month at Stetson's on U St. Join us for a round of lightning talks and plenty of socializing. This is a pretty casual event: everyone is welcome, and by no means do you need to look professional!

We don't have a set schedule, but just so you know what to expect, this is more or less how things tend to go:

  • Hang out for a bit and meet new people
  • A few quick lightning talks and any announcements
  • "Stump the expert" panel, where we discuss "how would I do this in Drupal?"-type questions
  • Quick introductions of everyone
  • More hanging out and drinks.

If you're interested in presenting a short lightning talk (5-7 minutes or so), leave a comment here or email Brock (brock@brockboland.com). Some ideas of what you could present:

  • Show off a newly-launched Drupal site
  • Demo a contrib module that you've released
  • Give a preview of changes being made in the next version of Drupal core
  • Share what you learned at a recent Drupalcon or camp

We hope to see you there!

I'd be interested in demoing a new site we launched in D7 for Johns Hopkins SAIS, http://www.sais-jhu.edu. Would that work?

Definitely!

I'll add you to the list! Here's some standard info I send to presenters:

Stetson's does NOT have wireless, so if you want to show anything from the Internet, please plan accordingly. If there's a video or something that you'd like on the laptop, let me know. If you want to do a live demo, it will probably be better to bring your own machine with whatever hotspot solution you use. The TV has a VGA cable attached, so make sure you bring an adapter if your machine will need it (I've got an adapter for Macs if you need one).

Lightning talks are usually in the 5-minute range, but we're flexible. Definitely keep it under 10 minutes though: since this takes place in a bar where everyone is standing, people will lose interest in presentations that aren't pretty short, and we typically have 3 or 4 presentations lined up.

I think that covers everything. If you have any questions or concerns, don't be shy about getting in touch.

Hi Brock, Can you put me on

Hi Brock,

Can you put me on the list for January instead? I'm at home today with a cold and I won't be able to present today. Thanks for the info. I would love to share our experiences with the group next month.

Best,

Chris
