Allow visitors to a site to make custom collections of photos...

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

What modules would I use to build a website that ...

  1. has 100s of photos that can only be added and modified by an admin [i.e. not the majority of users]
  2. allows users to find and group photos into their own custom made collections
  3. leave and come back to view their own collections as well as collections made my others
  4. edit their own collections
  5. then share their collections with others

Hi Rex, Welcome to the

Hi Rex,

Welcome to the group.

You may want to check out the books like Front End Drupal (I believe in the 5th chapter she talks about image galleries) or the Drupal Multimedia written by Aaron Winborn.

There are also often helpful people on the IRC channel drupal-support. Read more about drupal IRC at http://drupal.org/irc

We frequently get into discussions of the best modules to use for different tasks at the meetings, so you may want to bring this question to a meeting. The next one isn't scheduled yet, but should be soon.

Good luck,
-Lin

Rex-

If you are still working on this, you may want to have a look at the Apture module: http://drupal.org/project/apture

Apture allows you to easily embed pictures, music, video, and even calendars and widgets from Google, while keeping visitors in your page.

I found out about Apture when I was playing with the OpenPublish installation profile of Drupal 6. If you are starting from scratch, it has a ton of really useful modules included, and configuration is a snap. Check out: http://drupal.org/project/openpublish

Have fun!
