Let's make a list of modules that are useful for academic and research sites. Maybe we can slowly accumulate info on how they can be used.
Modules specific to the academic world
- Biblio (where all this started)
- OAI-PMH (for exposing the biblio nodes as metadata; http://drupal.org/project/oai2)
- eJournal
- Conference
- Table of contents (nice for dealing with long, structured documents)
- Footnotes (important for academic papers)
Generic modules of great use in the academic world
Module wish list (modules that either don't exist or are not quite 'right')
- Publish/Subscribe (modules with great potential for collaborating but independent website projects but still not quite ready)
- OAI-PMH Harvester (companion to the OAI-PMH publisher)
- Book module extension that can run independent book writing projects with separate outlining permissions
- Wiki module that could integrate with the book module
- Margin notes - for collaborative writing people normally want to scribble comments in the right-hand margin. Could this be possible? IN RESPONSE: TRY THIS FORUM: http://groups.drupal.org/annotate-module (Dead link. annotate module abandoned? http://drupal.org/project/annotate )
Co-ordination (challenge accepted, being bold!)
- Co-ordinated high-level documentation for Biblio and Footnotes to facilitate high-level site design. Creation of such a resource would also highlight aspects that would benefit "academic" editors from the development/integration of the independent modules available.
