Hello. Its now early March of 2013 and I wanted to know if there were viable DComm options for making multi-vendor or multipleseller sites like Etsy. I did read a now old thread thread some time back on the commerce site but it doesnt seem to have gone anywhere. does anyone know of a production site? thanks

I too have that question

I too have that question (just adding my name to the pile). I just built a site for a client using Drupal Commerce. The client came from an environment where his shop was one of many. In building it, I wondered if and how it would work with Organic Groups or something similar. Granted any thought of this also brings the spiral of "how to work security and permissions" ...

Sorry, Don G. As of yesterday

Sorry, Don G. As of yesterday I have given up trying to find a marketplace solution from Drupal- neither Commerce or Ubercart. I am not a programmer/coder, not a web developer either, so this is not a professional opinion, but it appears to me trying to get anykind of drupal to do what i need it to do in a marketplace site doesnt appear to be possible anytime in the near future. drupal Commerce was a non starter(for multi store) from the beginning, Ubercart has Marketplace, but for years I was waiting for it to be in version 7, now that it is in drupal 7, but its still dev and it saids a part of it is not working and has to be substituted or something, i dont know what any of that means.
once i gave up on drupal for marketplace i quickly found other options that were worth trying. once of them being marketpress by wpmudev
mainly for one reason i am giving up on drupal

"you can use it to start your own Etsy or Ebay style network of stores… where you take a % on each sale!!!"
perhaps i have been mistaken, but i couldnt get that out of a drupal solution. i would have to collect all of the money then distribute it back to the sellers. i absolutely dreaded that. anyway marketpress has that feature, so i am keeping my fingers crossed it will work.
I am surprised. i have always connected drupal with community, multiple users and wordpress, the best in blogging, single user, but a wordpress solution for marketplace looks far better developed and giving a total beat down on drupal for a marketplace solution.
I really appreciate how hard the drupal contributors have worked over the years to make drupal what it is, a free powerful software. i use it for nearly every other kind of site, however. well, it cant do everything.

Commerce is like at day

Commerce is like at day 1...
None of the multi-store or EVEN a bulk products, discount solution does exists for real life application.

I'm myself starting to look at Wordpress that does provide a way more useful 'commerce' solution.

Commerce Guys are doing fine ($$$) on their side but I don't know nothing moves much 'module' wise...

Just take a look around..

You'll likely want to see this thread: https://drupal.org/node/990204

Check out the Sandbox Project, Commerce Marketplace: https://drupal.org/sandbox/farhadhf/1979422

And read Handling Store Payments: https://drupal.org/node/1979474

The code is not production ready in the sense that its plug and play, but a lot of the work has been done and needs the community to step up and finish it.

Hope this helps.

Also, for what its worth, AFAIK, a multi store site is a very complex thing, especially with payment and laws and regulations so some customization is likely to always be needed.

Thanks

The marketplace seems to be ready to hit the road. It took two years.

That's one aspect solved.

I'd like (and I wish I'd know who else) a bulk product management/creation/edit that make sens and I know the author is out of time to maintain and seek co-maintainer.

And the discount that don't allow products/product variations selection (not being a coder is frustrating actually because it shouldn't be that huge to have a product selection display like the one under 'manage product' in kickstart2) is not even close to the real needs.
I don't know anyone who will discount its all store at once.
My brother sells T-shirts online (but on my advice not under drupal because of the discussed limitations), and if I had to tell him, yep you have to discount your all references or I can manage something with Rules but you'll have to call me also if you need to add more references because bulk products ain't no good... LOL. That makes no sens at all!
Only if the biz goes bankrupt and wants to get rid of everything.

I'm not yelling but it just does not feel serious.

I don't see why so many major aspects are left alone like if they were of no importance.
But I don't know, may be I'm asking too much.
