The call went out and today we held our first Drupal Camp Vancouver 2010 organizing meeting. Present were Chris Geoghegan, Vanessa Turke, Ryan Dempsey, Angus Pratt, Katy Laan, and myself (Dale McGladdery).

An aside, this first meeting was held in Surrey because most of the initial responders lived there. Then came a second wave of interest from the Vancouver side. Apologies to everyone who wanted to come but couldn't make it out. DCVan2010 is on the agenda at the October VanDUG meeting so everyone who wants to can get involved.

As in 2008, the planning group decided on a May camp in downtown Vancouver. The exact date will depend of venue availability. We're also going to stick with a Friday/Saturday format. We established criteria for what we want from a venue, like great WIFI and a space where people can informally socialize. The venue search is starting in earnest!

Most of the other planning details are dependent on venue. We discussed budget, sponsorship, website, and volunteers in broad terms, but made no specific plans.

Some of us are trying to be available in the #drupal-vancouver IRC channel. Feel free to engage us there, or with any of the other communication tools available.

For this first post I've cross-posted to both the Vancouver and Drupal Camp Vancouver group. If you want to track 2010 progress, please join the http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-camp-vancouver group.

Finally, a big thank you to all of you who have already volunteered and/or expressed support!

I think you have access to the Google Doc spreadsheet of budget from last year, which should be able to be used as a template. Maybe make a "call for venues" so other people can help look for something that fits.
