How to help with Organic Groups in Drupal 8?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

There isn't a D8 branch of OG yet in the repository, so this may be a bit premature. I'd like to find out what I can do to help get Organic Groups ready for Drupal 8. I'm planning on leapfrogging Drupal 7 and rebuilding a site in Drupal 8 that currently lives in Drupal 6. The development process will be slow, so it would be great to help contribute to the development of both OG8 and D8 as they come along.

What are the plans right now for a Drupal 8 release of Organic Groups?

It may take a while for that to happen

The code and feature freeze for D8 probably won't happen until later in 2013 or early 2014 from what I have read. Until that happens it may be a waste of time for developers to even think about starting on module upgrades or development until it is definitive about the actual platform. Now, this is contingent on no delays. Currently the code freeze is estimated to be around July 2013 at best if we are lucky, but I would shoot for early 2014 to be safe. @RoySegall nice! Haven't dug in yet, but can you update the Drupal 8 Roadmap OG issue on d.o?

In gizra each developer have one hour in the beginning of the day to contribute to other project. My free time and that hour allowed to port the Message module, some parts of the Message notifier and now OG. I'm starting to work another module so OG is off the grid for now.

I saw that Amitai wrote that if some one would fund the new version we can work on that but i can't see someone who would fund this especially at this part of Drupal 8 development when the API is rapidly changing. But if some want this - i would more then happy to do that.

Took quite a bit of searching, but it looks like this is the most active port: https://github.com/amitaibu/og
