Commons 2.x-3.x Upgrade Tool - Looking for testers!

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I've been working on a module that will provide a migration from Commons 2.x to 3.x (https://drupal.org/sandbox/nateswart/1946220). It's pre-alpha at this point, but close to being usable. I have a few small items to wrap up with it and some documentation to write on how to use it.

Is anyone out there looking to upgrade Commons from 2.x to 3.x and feeling brave enough to run some tests with/for me? Respond here and I'll let you know when I can set you loose on it!

I was the one that contacted you through the issue queue a few weeks ago. I would be happy to help test whatever you need. I have already played around with your module a bit as is...

Just specify what you need tested / help with and I will see what I can do...Thanks for taking the initiative on this module!

We are interested in migrating our install, can't guarantee we'll have time to test but will try. As a business project I don't have time allocated to upgrade commons, yet. Post updates here as you are ready to go. Thank you for your work on this so far!

Awesome - thank you for the

Awesome - thank you for the interest!

The patch to OG is still required, but Amitai has agreed to commit it once Migrate 2.6 is officially released (dependency).

I have to fix an OG migration issue (that I introduced) and then it should be ready for testing. Of course, nothing is stopping anyone from seeing how far you can get now! :)

ydnar79: there have been some changes since you first tried it. It's less WYSIWYG now so that it can be inherited and extended for custom implementations easier (but still works out of the box with no custom code).

Sounds good... I have been

Sounds good... I have been watching your development and have seen your progress continue. But I do appreciate the clarification on how you are proceeding.

I will continue to keep an eye on your work and once you get the OG issue worked out, hopefully I can work in some time to start testing the migration on a few dev environments.

Anything that I find, I will definitely relay back to you. Don't hesitate to ask if there is something more I can do.... I will be happy to help if I can.

I am also interested in testing if you need more testers.

I could test it

I have a Commons site that has a number of additional modules I've been using. I could see how far I can get on a test site, if you think that would help.

Available and eager to do testing as well

I too have a Drupal Commons 2.x install I wish to upgrade to Drupal 7 and would be willing and able to test.
Let me know!

Quick update for everyone.

Quick update for everyone. I'm going to be having a mini internal hackathon with some co-workers towards the end of next week to try and wrap this up. Thanks for your interest and being patient!

Got a fresh install of

trevorw's picture

Got a fresh install of Commons 3 ready to go for testing. Installed the migrate, migrate_d2d dev version and installed the patch for OG as your sandbox page stated.

I did not make it far with the current version of the module, get Fatal error: Call to undefined method MigrateGroup::register() in sites/all/modules/commons_migration/commons_migration.module on line 31. Changed line 31 and 52 to 'og' instead of 'organicgroups' which fixed that error but then ran into another one regarding circular references (sorry, didn't copy that one) so went back to 'organicgroups' seeing as I don't know the drupal code well at all.

Once your hackathon get's wrapped up I can update and go from there.

Do I need to install all the custom/contributed modules that I have on 6.x to 7 or stick with a base install of Commons 7 and then add back modules as needed?

If there's any other documentation on how to run this migration module that'd be helpful too cause I'm just guessing here. :)

Thanks for the work on this, hopefully we can get a good process hammered out for use!

Updates?

Hi Nate,
Are there any notes or thoughts on the results of the hackathon?

Thanks!
Sean

Yes - almost everything is

nateswart's picture

Yes - almost everything is successfully migrating. There is one final step (mapping the migrated posts to the migrated groups) and a few bugs to squish left. Everything is checked in if you'd like to run it to see how your content migrates.

Any more development?

Nate,

Any news on those couple bugs you referred to in early August?

I'll be giving your work a whirl this week.

Thanks!
