Promoting TC Drupal Camp 2013

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

We've got some great keynotes lined up and almost 60 session submissions. We'll be announcing accepted sessions over the next two weeks.

Now, we just need to make sure that everyone knows about what a great camp we are planning and how they can register.

http://2013.tcdrupal.org/

Please share your ideas on how we can best promote TC Drupal Camp 2013 and make sure that everyone that might possibly be interested hears about it.

  • What listserves or bulletin boards can/should we post to?
  • Any calendars we need to get on?
  • Have you shared with your social media channels yet?
  • What else can you do to help us promote the camp?
  • How else can we promote the heck out of this great event?

Hoping for lots of great ideas.

:-)

Promoting to Other Regional Groups

wylbur's picture

For past camps I joined other regional groups, and posted messages about the camp. That was pretty effective in getting folks that can make the drive to come to the camps.

I could take that on if it's not already in the works.

Thank you!

Tim - thanks for posting this - along with all your work on the camp. (Seriously - it's been great to have you helping on so many things.)

I have not done much on this front. Most of my conversations to-date have been one-on-one, but it's high time to move past that. I'll start posting more generally to Twitter/Facebook, but I think we're ready to reach out to listserves and groups.

Based on memory, past years' outreach has included:
* MCN - http://www.minnesotanonprofits.org. I think Barry has connections there - and we've had some contact in the past as well
* MinneWebCon - http://minnewebcon.org/ - Gabe has been our traditional contact with MinneWebCon - but others of us - like EmmaJane - have been a part of both in the past.
* MinneBar - http://minnestar.org/minnebar - think Jer, Barry and others have cross-polinated with MineeWebCon in the past. I know, for example, that Joe and I co-presented there years ago. It's been a while since I had any direct contact, however.

I know that's a very incomplete list, however. Who else would be happy to learn that we were having a DrupalCamp with some of the best/brightest/awesomest Drupal community members and speakers in the world, right here in the Twin Cities?

Hey everybody, I run a weekly talk show about Drupal and would love to feature the camp during an episode.

Anybody able to be on the show with me next Wedesday (6/14) at 9am (Central time)?

Sure!

You mean 6/19, right? I'd be willing to join - but we should get others as well. (Joe, Keri, Tim, Jer, Peter, .... ?)

Wisconsin Drupalers invited

I just sent a message to the Wisconsin Drupal User Group inviting them to Twin Cities Drupal Camp.

Also, today they just announced the dates of their camp, which will be the weekend after TCDC: http://drupalcampwi.com.

I'm working on MinneWebCon

Just forwarded my appeal for sponsorship to my co-coordinators at MinneWebCon. Should have a decision by end of this week.

Hey, I'm a DrupalCorn

Hey, I'm a DrupalCorn organizer. I just wanted to mention that we're promoting TC Drupal Camp 2013 on our camp site http://2013.drupalcorn.org/

Awesome - thanks Brandon!

And we should be promoting DrupalCorn as well - there's plenty of potential attendee overlap. (DrupalCorn is in Iowa City, Iowa on August 8 - 11, 2013 -- more at http://2013.drupalcorn.org)

Promoting Drupal Camps

annie stone's picture

I am working on promoting NYCCamp in NYC (July 12-15th) and CapitalCamp in DC (July 26th and 27th.) I use social media (Twitter and Facebook) as well as GDO event and discussion announcements. I also use mailchimp to send out newsletters to interested parties and I have posted the events on Lanyard.com.

Another idea that I think might be great, but havent tested it yet, is to give sponsors the opportunity to write a blog post about the event and speakers/sprints/activities, and then promote their blog post on the camp website. This kind of cross-promotion could generate a larger buzz around the event and engage sponsors clients and partners.

So there's my $ .02

clients and emails

I added a couple of simple ideas to your spreadsheet

  1. We all of clients: send out a news email to your clients and those who you think would be interested - if you do not know how to make a distribution list that does not list all the sender addresses, we can help you

  2. Email: Add the camp link to your email signature - maybe with some sort of marking hook phrase that will create interest for them to click and investigate.
