I am a Drupal Newbie who is learning as I go. I'm watching videos, reading, experimenting, working through. So far I think Drupal is absolutely amazing, and it has opened a whole new world of development for me, so I can't wait to see where it goes.
Currently, I have embarked on a project and have incorporated the user points module to help accomplish my goal.
Overall goal: Create a "Club" points site that can be replicated for various clients.
General: Visitors to the site can register for the "Club" by going to the web site and signing up for the club. Registered users collect points by signing into the web site each day (this is already set up thanks to this module), and by going into the brick and mortar and purchasing items or performing certain tasks.
Specific: Employees in the brick and mortar will be able to add points to user accounts through use of the web site (roles/permissions) that ultimately are approved by managers (roles/perms). Ideally, it would be great if we could set up the employees with scanners connected to the web site so that when a user hands their card to the employee(s) to be scanned, the program can simply add a point.
I have set up several categories in the points taxonomy for which users can earn points. If we were able to set up the scanners to work with all of this, then each department would be logged into their "category" and scanning a customer card would automatically add a point under that department's category.
Users should be able to view the points they have earned under each category, as well as their total number of points earned.
Accumulated points could be redeemed for merchandise, with the redeemed points being subtracted. So far, no decision has been made on expiration of points, but we are thinking we won't put an expiration date in.
So far I have been able to set up the basic site, create the user registration so that visitors to the site can register themselves, or they can be registered by one of the employees. I have been able to set roles and permissions so that employees can view, add points, etc. So at this point we can manually add points...
What I have not been able to do yet is figure out how to print out a card for the user, (just need business card size with a barcode for points), and to be able to scan that card to assign points.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am open to them!!
