Hello,
i facing a very strange behaivor on all sites i create with BOA.
When i change the Account Settings (admin/config/people/accounts) to "Administrator only" or "Visitor" for registrations of new user it always shows "Visitors, but administrator approval is required" thicked after saving the form. The exact same happens for "Require e-mail verification when a visitor creates an account.". I uncheck it and save the settings and it's checked again.
In the DB i looked at the variable "user_register" while changing settings in the frontend and the value does change. However, strange enough, the signup process still always follow the procedure for "Visitors, but administrator approval is required" no matter what i do.
I guess this is somehow related to BOA because it's even on a fresh and clean site with standard D7 platform the same. I tested it also on another server running cPanel with fresh D7 installation and there it works.
I have no clue how to get around this or where i should start debugging.
Thanks, N20

Hostmaster issue
I tried using the disable_user_register_protection.info fix on a hostmaster site I intend to allow anonymous users the permission to create clients.
It doesn't work though. I've cleared cache, and even tried using rules to force it but it still goes to error 403 Forbidden page.
Please help.

primeworks, any luck? I'm having the same issue, fresh BOA install.
Edit: config/includes/global.inc has these 3 lines that cause this:
