Making your apps and sites accessible is often just a matter of following simple standardised accessibility guidelines which will not only help improve the lives of millions of Australians but can also result in better search engine optimisation for your website as accessible sites are also easier to crawl by Google bots. This is a relatively untapped market with huge potential, especially given our ageing population.
Why are ACCAN and Telstra holding the event?
The conference will highlight the fact that millions of people with disability and older consumers may be missing out on the mobile revolution because many apps and websites are not accessible. The conference will also showcase a range of products and services that are already including accessibility, giving attendees a hands on experience as well as a strong grasp of how these technologies can improve lives.
This issue is increasingly important for all Australians, given our increasing reliance on mobiles and the fact that people with disability and older consumers represent a large proportion of the Australian population. In 2009, The ABS reported that 1 in 5 Australians have some form of disability and in 2011 more than three million Australians were aged 65 or over.
