Drupal has proven itself very useful and a great contributor to healthcare overall. As a medical doctor and surgeon, our group has successfully used Drupal to develop several platforms including:
- Open source clinical trial management systems
- Platforms for interdisciplinary collaborations of healthcare professionals
- Patient and healthcare information aid websites
- Healthcare conference platforms and paper submission systems
These platforms are not only practically useful but have contributed to medical science as well. The following publications evaluated Drupal platforms in healthcare:
Managing Clinical Trials with Open Source - Informatics for Health and Social Care, in Press
A novel open-source web-based platform promoting collaboration of healthcare professionals and biostatisticians: A design science approach - Informatics for Health and Social Care, 2011

What is really missing now is a flexible to local needs Module for Electronic Patient Records (EPC), also known as Electronic Health Records (EHR). This would certainly support institutions with a low budget or those from developing countries. Most important of all, it may contribute to a better healthcare in the longterm.
Looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

http://www.mirthcorp.com/products/mirth-connect - I think between views, services, and feeds Drupal could connect to Mirth and use that as a crosswalk to most EMR's - in the United States this should open up the door for "Meaningful Use" grants.... If there were anyone interested in testing this I'd be interested in helping
Are you familiar with NOSH?
I recently spoke with a doctor who has quit practicing medicine to develop an open-source electronic health record called NOSH. He has developed it in PHP and it has a .deb installer here.
