Drupal distribution or custom build?
Here's a recent article by sarah_p about deciding whether to use a distribution or not, when starting a Drupal project: http://shomeya.com/articles/drupal-distribution-or-custom-build
Bring your site idea!
I know a couple people were at recent Drupal meetings with this exact issue. If that is you please bring your idea and tell us about it! I know that the people at the meeting would love to offer advice about planning out your site.

It'd be good to continue our
It'd be good to continue our conversation from last meeting about choosing base themes and front-end frameworks, as well as "must have" modules that folks use in most/every project. (I know this conversation can devolve into tantrums and name-calling, but I'm sure we can keep it civil.)
Separately, can we spend a little time talking explicitly about the meeting location? I know a few organizers have done a lot of work on this (thanks!), and there's been a lot of discussion about it recently, but it seems to be a difficult process and mostly come to the group as: "here's the new location". It'd be good to get a quick update on the factors and decision-making process, and open it up to input from the group in some appropriate/constructive way.
I would love to go since I
I would love to go since I had a good time at the last one, however, I will be out of town for this one.
Extended co-working...
There has been some chatter about a D8 module-port sprint in conjunction with SeaDUG and the MidWest Drupal Summit over in this thread. If you're interested in an all-day Drupal-fest, please chime in over there. My suggested location is the Fremont branch of SPL -- it's about a block from Tableau -- which has meeting rooms available from 11 - 6pm with wifi.
We've only got a week to pull together critical mass to make this work... I've got a module that needs porting, so I'm in. Eric and Doug have also expressed interest. Anyone else? Let us know.
Other topics...
A couple other topics that I would like to touch on for this month's meetup:
I'm happy to talk about the first two. I would love it if someone could talk about the last one as I'm terrible at it! :)
Other topics
Hi Mike - what would you want to see about project and client management? I may be able to talk on that, I've been a Drupal PM for 7 years now.
PM topics...
Hey Jeanne,
Some things I struggle with are:
After rereading the original post, these may be a bit off-topic for this month but I would love to hear your opinions/ideas/processes if we have the time. In general I avoid items #1 and #3 by picking time-and-materials for item #2. But then I end up with the Client That Won't Go Away clinging to my leg because I don't know how to do #4.
(And, no, the CTWGA is not Cozi... :)
Drupal Project Check List
Hi Mike,
I collect Drupal PM resources on "Drupal Project Check List" that you may find useful:

PM topics
I think we all struggle with those issues, especially with Drupal where there are hundreds of modules to use. If you've used the modules, you can estimate pretty well. But if it's new, then you need some time to test it out and see if it will do what you need it to do which is better suited for time and materials. But of course, the client wants a fixed bid so they can be assured of the budget.
There were a couple sessions at DrupalCon which I thought were helpful:
PM session I did attend:

I didn't attend this one, but very useful video:

Co-working location...
The D8 sprint is on at the Fremont library from 11 - 6 before the SeaDUG meeting.
May I suggest that the co-working location be moved to the sprint location? The library meeting room can hold plenty, has wifi, allows food and drink, is only a block from the SeaDUG location and will already have a cadre of SeaDUG'ers hacking away.
Whadayathink?
Coworking at the library
That sounds great. I've changed the coworking information in the meeting announcement.
Module List
I was just setting up a new project and downloading our standard modules from Drupal.org and thought it might be helpful in this conversation for folks to share their "goes on every site" list of modules. I made a .make file with Drush that lists our and would be happy to talk through that.

Please continue to meet in Fremont
I will not be able to make the meeting tonight but I hope you will continue to meet in Fremont and not in the previous location.
Also I think it would add tremendous value to the meetings if detailed notes were taken and posted online. It would help people who missed the meeting and it would help people like myself who may not be able to understand all that is being said.
Continuing to meet in Fremont
Warren - I am glad that the new location is better for you and I hope you'll be able to make a meeting soon. I think the general consensus last night was that the location is great, so we'll do our best to try to make sure we can continue to meet there.
Having detailed notes taken at the meetings is probably not something we can pull off, unless one of our members is secretly a stenographer.
Couple of questions from the noob.
Hey guys, a couple of questions from the new guy at the meeting this week, if not interested just ignore.
I'm currently starting on my first web site. The Seattle tango community has a community website used for event announcements (http://allseattletango.com/) and I'm trying to create one for the Seattle salsa because one currently doesn't exist.
I've created a first cut (more of a mockup to show to the client to get feedback at this point) with some dummy pictures and data at http://cliff98109.com/allseattlesalsa/. I'm having a problem with the Calendar in that the header shown for the Month tab isn't correct and events aren't shown in the month calendar unless I'm logged in as admin. I searched drupal.org and only found this: https://drupal.org/node/1539368 , anyone have any ideas?
Also, any layout questions or comments in general welcome.
