Distributions Part 3

Drupal Somerset logo design
Work is underway on a new logo for our user group and although not finalised the draft version looks very good. Members of our user group who are involved in the design will present the draft version and discuss the design journey so far.
Make Drupal 8 happen by 'gittipping' Alex Pott
Alex Pott was asked recently by Dries Buytaert to become a core-maintainer for Drupal 8 and following his acceptance for this role Alex has also quit his well paid daytime job to focus on this work.
Through gittip, people who use Drupal in any way can support the software development by gifting Alex a weekly amount. The money will help Alex 'stay out of a job' and allow him to dedicate more of his time to Drupal.
At the time of writing Alex receives $181 of his $475 goal per week. Have a look at Alex's current Gittip status here. Paul Johnson has also written a blog post with background information and further links.
We will look at and discuss this new way of crowdfunding developers.
Join us remotely
If you like to join us but can't make it to our meet up in person then please let us know so you can join our Google Hangout. Alhough this is not quite the same as physically being there it worked really well the other day for one of our Drupal friends in Norway who didn't have any local user groups in his area. Just send a tweet to @drupalsomerset of email us via the Contact page if you'd like to join virtually.
