Projector, video output, etc.

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

We have been lucky in that Jon, who usually comes to our monthly Drupal meetings, has a projector (the library where we meet doesn't have one we can use). However, last month Jon couldn't make it, and I'm sure that will happen occasionally. It would be good to have a backup plan in place.

Three options I can think of:

a) Does anyone who comes regularly have a projector they could bring? (reply here if so, and let us know what kind of video input it supports)

b) I'm considering buying a projector. There are used ones available frequently on our local Craigslist (new ones are pretty expensive). I have been holding off on getting one, because the used projectors I am seeing seem to only support VGA input. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector) My laptop has VGA output, but I'm not sure how many other people who come to the meeting have laptops with VGA output. Mine has both VGA and HDMI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI), and I also have an adapter that will convert HDMI output to a DVI monitor input (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface). I think Macs use DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_DisplayPort)...

Ideally, we would have cables/adapters/projector that would let anyone connect.

===> Can people reply as to what video output connectors they have on their laptops, and if they have any adapter cables/plugs?

c) Does anyone know of a centrally-located free meeting space that has a projector available? We currently have people coming from Downtown Spokane, Mead, Post Falls ID, South Hill, Hayden ID, and east Spokane Valley (and maybe elsewhere)... I think our current location is fairly central...

==> Any ideas?

An Idea

No sure... I will investigate and get back at you... but I believe we may be able to use something like skype or Google Hangouts that way we can share our screen with a group... if this works this way the only rule I will create is... the user got to be present in the meeting...

looking forward for next meeting!

Thanks,

JA

Good thought...

The only problem is that not everyone brings a laptop to the meeting or turns it on... but I guess it would reduce the number of people huddling around each laptop.

I've definitely done screen sharing via Skype and Hangouts; both work for me (even on my Ubuntu Linux laptop).

Hope this helps

We have is a Sharp-XG-NV3XU (but it supports VGA input) that I would be happy to bring. I will check to see if I can find any adaptors.

The projector I bring

Sorry I missed the meeting. Bryan was going back to college that day, so we were at the airport. Should be there next time. I can see I was missed... or was my projector missed :)

This is the projector I have. The price has drop now to under $500. It does HD and has multiple input for VGA and HDMI. For the price a very good unit. Just bought one this week for Faith Baptist Academy where my wife works.
