After the DUG meeting tonight we were talking about hosting solutions for Drupal and thought it would be helpful to gather a list of our experiences.

So what hosting services that support Drupal do you know about, and which would you recommend? Do you use a managed solution or manually install yourself? How long have you used a particular service? What is your selection criteria: reliability, price, features, security, support, etc.?

Below are some previous threads on drupal.org that discuss the same topic...

TronicTech

For several years I have been using TronicTech which offers cheap, unsupported hosting for tech savvy users. They do offer supported hosting through another brand Ion-Web. Even though I'm on the unsupported plan, the response has been very helpful whenever I had a question regarding PHP upgrades or whatnot. TronicTech uses CPanel with Reseller plans that allow you to host client sites with their own access and control.

TronicTech Features: SSH, PHP5, Perl, Python, Ruby, WebDAV, MySQL, PostGreSQL, Subversion, SMTP, IMAP, POP

I also work with TextDrive and DreamHost shared servers as well but don't have as much history to say much about their service other than that they offer similar features as above. TextDrive uses Webmin and Dreamhost has their own ControlPanel.

Thanks for those links. The 2007 reviews are great. I'm seriously considering opensourcehosting.com and hostmonster.com for a new client of mine. Has anyone used either of these hosts? My client will eventually manage the site themselves, so a hosting company with 24/7 high quality customer service is key.

I think TronicTech.com may be a good choice for me. Low-key and lots of goodies for a developer.

Thanks,

Robin

Hey.
I'm part of a cooperative that does web hosting. Our system administrator is great. We have virtual servers, and hosting (managed & unmanaged), with servers located downtown (in the Westin building.)
