Your help needed to keep contributed module tables updated

Hi everyone!

I'm happy that there is so much interest in the Contributed Module Status group which, with 900-something subscribers, is now the second largest group here on groups.drupal.org. My vision was for folks to be able to easily view a table that included ALL contributed modules and their status without having to search for hours on drupal.org as to whether or not contributed module xyz would be ported to a more current version (and when) or whether contributed module zyx would still be maintained (and if it had been replaced). Think of the table as an airplane view from 30,000 feet up in the sky which quickly gets you from point a to point b in terms of you determining whether or not you should pursue a certain contributed module.

However, with over 1,000 contributed modules --- yes, over 1,000! --- I do not have the time to make all the updates to the table myself. So, this is a plea for your assistance. I need your help to make this group successful.

The Contributed modules status - version 5.x is getting outdated due to the many updates maintainers have made to their respective contributed modules. So it's great that modules are being updated, but then someone needs to update the table. This is where the 381 subscribers, someone like you, can give back to the community! :) I really do need your help!

I like to think that with your subscription in this group comes a certain responsibility back to the community. As you benefit from the work of others, others should benefit from your work. It's called give and take. Basically, it's expected that you will contribute by reviewing which modules you use, determining if they're listed here on the table, and, if updating/adding/deleting the modules to the table is necessary, spending a few minutes to make the applicable changes.

You don't need to know HTML or PHP code to make the updates. I don't, and I found that making the updates via the wiki is easy. You simply click the "Edit" button on the wiki table for the respective version you're using, e.g. 5.x, which will then allow you to make the necessary changes. If you find a contributed module is missing from the table, and many are, simply copy and paste the couple of lines that exist for another contributed module and then make the necessary changes to the module you're adding. Then click "Preview" to see your changes and, if it all looks good, click "Submit" and you're done with the table! Finally, be sure to click on "Add new comment" just below the table and add a short comment as to what you updated on the table so folks know what change(s) was (were) made and so that we have a record of who made the changes. Adding a new comment after you've made changes to the table also makes it easy for some folks to glance at the latest comments for changes and to reconcile them with the table.

If you have any questions, concerns, and/or suggestions, please feel free to state them here. I'm happy to answer any of your posts.

In closing, thank you for your kind help! With your assistance, we'll be able to keep the tables updated for all releases! :)

I'd like to help

Hi Walt,

I'd like to help with this. I like the fact that it's something a non-programmer can contribute to the community.

I've noticed I often run into modules people have created which are not listed. Just run into them in random searches. Any tips for finding these?

I have very little time but I'll certainly make a big effort to find more time for this worthy endeavor. Just point the way so we can do more than the occasional edit because we ran into something useful.

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil & thanks for your reply!

Not listed on my table, not listed on the Drupal contributed modules page, or not listed on either of the above? Please provide a couple examples so I know what you're referring to.

Yes, many of us are short on time, but the beauty about the wiki is that if 381 subscribers of the group spend only 10 minutes each making an "occasional edit," the table will be much more up-to-date in no time at all. :) The table may not be perfect, but it will certainly look much better with more folks helping out. :) So if you use contributed modules, I would really appreciate it if you could please ensure they're all listed on the table and that the info is current. :)

Well, mine aren't in your list

I have two modules that are not in your list, but I don't see (yet) where I can add them.

Finally figured it out, so you have two more on your list.
