If the weather is good I
If the weather is good I could find my way there as I believe I'm free that day. I could probably make a work trip out of it if it's for networking. Though the idea of "briefly" presenting most of the crap I work on up here is probably impossible ;). Any interest in meeting up more formally as Pitt / PSU earlier on the same day mark?
I could also go over how we redid our home page for the meeting if there's interest -- https://elearning.psu.edu/elearning/ (yes there is content on that site, we just haven't finished the homepage hence the beta flag) :)

Day Time Presentation?
Be sure and announce here if you arrange anything earlier in the day. I am free all day and want to learn as much about Drupal as possible. I missed the last meeting. Bob and I monopolized the previous meeting with all of our questions (sorry folks). I have been working diligently on the famous Drupal steep learning curve and things are starting to crystallize a bit.
Or you can contact me directly: greg @ simkins . net
OK, it's on!
So... I ran it by the powers that be, and we can do a Drupal in ed thing earlier in the day, if we want to gather up some folks during the day and do a Drupal in Higher Ed thing on-clock. I can host.
Or, if people want to, we can start the meeting earlier and allow a bit more time than usual. The room is free pretty much mid-afternoon on. I'm sure I could net another one earlier if need be. I put out some feelers to other Drupal-interested folks within Pitt (who haven't been to meetups as far as I know) - waiting to hear back.
I kinda like the idea of gathering up the University developers for a little bit to discuss some of the unique applications of Drupal within the higher-ed community. What time were you thinking of heading down, btopro?
Option 1: PSU/Pitt/any other interested University folk meet earlier in the day, we run the regular meetup 7-9.
Option 2: We book the room from 5:30-9 solid, have Ed chat after work, get pizza between this and the usual meetup.
Option 3: dream it up. I'm open to whatever.
My vote
I'd rather go for option 1 personally. I know we probably all have a lot of stuff we've been working on and Higher Ed is a pretty specific topic area that I know you and I talked about for.... 8+ hours in Drupalcon Boston forever ago. I also talked for 2 hours on campus recently about what we've been up to and ran over time. In Wisconsin in June we spoke for 2 days prior to a drupalcamp with probably about 10 - 14 hours of discussion just about what PSU was up to and what various units had been working on there.
I guess what I'm saying is I think we'll have plenty to talk about ;) on however many sides of the table there are using Drupal on a day to day basis. If there are going to be two different but somewhat related times if people could generate what they'd like to talk about for each one instead of just the 7 to 9 meet up that'd be good to see. If anyone's unfamiliar with PSU's Drupal usage, I'm using it for everything under the sun. From site management, to course management, to course delivery, to assignment management, to rubric based assessment and it's starting to spread like wildfire to other colleges and departments.
Do some figuring out as to how much time we can get earlier in the day and others please let me know what you'd like to talk about. I can focus on some of the more globally applicable projects at the evening get together if that's of interest to others. Here's some of the projects I've worked on if you care to play early, we have a few more that are internal / unreleased for authentication, roster management, and course management -- http://drupal.org/user/24286

I'll be there
I would like to discuss (read: get pointers on) user workflows for reviewing and editing content.
btopro and Mark, if you do get together earlier that day, I would like to be involved. (@btopro: I also work at Pitt, formerly with Mark.)

Cool
Boss said it's cool if I go so I'm definitely game if we could get something together. If you still work for Pitt and Mark can't get something setup I'd be willing to meet with whoever. I've been trying to build a relationship with Pitt, CMU and the rest of the high ed. places in the Pittsburgh area so I can recruit for the consortium :)

Meeting Structure
.
We can start the meeting before 7 if people want to and the room is available. I would love to hear more about what is happening with elearning at PSU. Maybe the Drush presentation can be postponed until January since we have a unique opportunity to have this out-of-town guest.
I don't want to butt anyone out
I've been trying to get to one of these for months now and finally found one that'll fit my schedule. That said, I haven' been able to alter my schedule to fit your guys all these months so please don't feel that you need to in reverse. I don't want to butt anyone out if they had topics they wanted to speak about. At least through up a poll or something, I don't want to piss people off prior to getting there, afterward is a different story though ;).

I'll be there + new site showcase
I'll be there, I'd love to pitch in for pizza as well if anyone else is interested. I'll also be fresh back from drupal camp Chicago, so perhaps I could share some of what I glean from there.
We're also rapidly approaching the release date for our new drupal site here at SimOps. The current site is at www.wildpockets.com and is getting an brand new layout and styling which is due to go live on the 28th. I'd be really interested in sharing so of the internals of the project as well as maybe get some feedback from fellow drupal developers about the redesign.
The site itself is a very ambitious project, its designed around a 3D web based game engine we're developing as well. The site has been largely static until now, and this new redesign is largely targeted at leveraging drupal's advanced community functionality to make a one of a kind, custom online game development experience.
See you all there!
Will try to make it...
I am driving down from Philadelphia today, so I will be able to make it. :(
I was looking forward to Pizza! I will definitely be joining in January.
Cheers,
Tony

Re: Popups API (from tonight's discussion)
The module I've used is the Modal Frame API (http://drupal.org/project/modalframe) rather than the Popups API. Mark mentioned create-in-place for related nodes using a modal "window", which I've done with Node Relationships (http://drupal.org/project/noderelationships).
Also: Q-Views
I haven't tried this out yet, but there's an alpha module for views based on user-defined queries (something I wool-gathered on a bit tonight). http://drupal.org/project/qviews
It's January! Meetup -> Where -> When -> What?
Is there a meetup planned for January? Are there topics?
Anytime after Jan 10th is good for me!

January Meeting -> You are presenting!
.
Would you be able to do the Drush presentation that got postponed from December? We were thinking Wed, Jan 13 or 20. Which would be better for you?
Definitely Drush
Would be happy to demo Drush! We also have an upcoming launch of a redesign of wildpockets.com running on Mercury, which could be fun to talk about.
13th or 20th are good for me... let's see which date is best for the rest.

Any one else perfer the 20th?
I'll be out of town the week of the 13th, if the 20th works for everyone else I'd prefer that day. Spyderboy are getting ready to launch a pretty ambitious new drupal site, it would be great to get some feedback.
Both 13 and 20 Jan work for

Drupal Help
Hi Free RS Pin,
Your question is rather general, but I can identify with the feeling of ''where do I start'? Actually, there is a ton of free material regarding Drupal on the web, especially at Drupal.org. I was introduced to Drupal at the Ohio Linux meeting in Columbus a few years ago (www.ohiolinux.org). They have a video archive somewhere, as do the semi-annual Drupalcon events.
If you want a more organized introduction, check out one of several books available on Amazon. Also, there are excellent videos on www.lynda.com. Try Drupal 7 essentials: http://www.lynda.com/Drupal-7-tutorials/essential-training/73655-2.html

Re: Help Me
Sorry I missed your post earlier - I don't always keep up with the boards. I am always willing to help people get started in Drupal in return for some volunteer hours in Drupal for our non-profit as you get further along. Contact me if you are interested. We'll train by working on your project (if you have one) and then later you can assist on some of ours. Let me know if you are interested. I'll be at the meeting tomorrow. Hope to see you there.
Count Me In
Hi Liz,
Thanks for your kind offer. I would like to take you up on it.
Contact me at greg@simkins.net or iPhone at 412-478-2892 or Skype at gregsim2. I plan to be at meeting tomorrow night.
My present project is to turn the static site at zioncc.org into a drupal site at zioncc.us and keep the same basic design on the front page (from the static site). I have been slugging my way through Lynda.com courses on Drupal Template Design and Dreamweaver. I am leaving the country in 3 weeks. I expect to have some time to work remotely while overseas. I am pretty flexible weekdays for meetings until end of July.
