Yes and No, depending on the server. I assume you mean "No" to be Apache 1.3.x, which might be better to be explicit.

What are you trying to figure out?

Framing the question.

Boris-

I'm just trying to learn.

I will be honest with you, Boris, I've spend 3+ weeks now trying to gather information so that I can get my server optimally configured for the Drupal environment and my specific multisite needs. I have more questions now than answers; this is usually the process - from my experience. (I remind myself this so that I don't get frustrated :-))

So, this morning I thought, "Let me start asking questions of the community, it's easy, painless, takes a second to answer a simple question (verses a long survey), and after another 3 weeks, I/we might have a clearer picture of the average developer's environment, the tools they use, their strategy and tactics, etc." When building anything, it's all about the:
*tools (PuTTY)
*material (Drupal core, and other code)
*technique (specific strategies and tactics in working with the tools and material that make up the design and product)
*environment (LAMP or other options)

I'd love to run the polling questions by you first so that you could tweak; as you seem to have more experience than I; or, you could ask questions yourself. I'd answer 20 questions a day (take about 2 minutes), If I thought I could learn from the community's answers.

Thanks for dialogging....
