I was wondering if there is a Install Profile for Social Networking Sites.
I checked it up at the Distribution profiles group and searched for "Social Networking" and found nothing. Are there any efforts in building a install profile for social networking sites? I checked up at Social Networking Sites and found nothing about installation profiles.
Has there been already an effort.
And if not a installation profile, then can we formulate a site recipe?
What all would we need to have a basic social networking site up and running?
- Buddy List
- Private Message
- GuestBook/Scrapbook
- Groups
- Forums?

Extensions of profile.module
I would also look at different contributed modules which extend the functionality of the profile.module.
not yet
Personally, I don't think it's time to do that just yet. Until we get a de facto "this is the right way" you have to choose from usernode, user nodes, bio, nodeprofile, and maybe some others. That's too many choices and each one has it's pros/cons. So...I would wait to decide on a feature.
Making a profile is easy - supporting it is hard. If you choose one of the solutions and then find out that it was the wrong choice...you have to give your users an upgrade path.
Unless you were talking about some other kind of extension. In which case...sure - can you list some? :)

Greggles, I think I know
Greggles, I think I know what you are getting at. After posting this up there, I looked around at the different methods (and modules) using which I can get the listed feature - and you know what? I have a lot of choices. And choices is not always a good thing - as you said, it becomes difficult to choose one of them when you do not know which one would be getting continued support.
Upgrade path
I'm running into that now... I started out just using the usernode and now am adding in nodeprofile and will have to copy the data over manually. Luckily I'm doing this when I only have a couple users. I'd hate to try and do this with hundreds or more.
I'm looking at the various options here:

Step by step here:

Both unfinished, sorry... Real life keeps getting in the way.
