What do you want to talk about in January?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone wants to suggest a topic for January's meeting. I have thought of a couple of ideas so far, but if someone wants to present, please contact me! Is there a topic you'd like someone else to cover? We can do that, too!

Thanks,

KC

Integrating CGI with Drupal

tim042849's picture

I have the go-ahead from a client to experiment with integrating an existing site with drupal. This is a very complex (but haphazardly designed) site found at alaskamls.com but available only to authenticated users.

One of the starting points would be a simple proof-of-concept module that simply demonstrates how to extract authenticated user data (presumably the global $user variable) and print some of it to a simple page or node, including the hashed password.

I would think that the basics of it are in my very limited drupalese and I should have that done in about a week. The basics of setting up this custom module might be of interest to others.

I note that drush has a module builder plugin that also works as a module in drupal.

My problem is that I can't guarantee making it in to Anchorage, depending on the weather. I could "hand off" to someone else to present.

P.S. CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface, not the graphics thingy or the knuckleheads at ACA
and CGI could be one of (CGI, fastCGI, SCGI, et. al.)

Sorry about the lag on this

Sorry about the lag on this but I wont be able to attend this months meeting. I'll be in California between the 9th and the 17th

Views - Perhaps?

As per my opening topic, I could set up (yet another) tutorial on drupal module building. Perhaps it will be constructive and instructive, but as likely will have limited appeal. One of the things that interests me when I'm not sticking my head "under the drupal hood" is views.

From what K.C. has said - I infer that she has worked a bit with views and maybe K.C. would have some tips or examples to share. And I'm still willing to get into modules ....

Hey,

I'm glad you're willing to present -- I think any or all of these topics are fine. I want to do a short presentation on spam/security for about 30 minutes max (since I've been dealing with it so often lately), but I wanted you to take at least one of the hours to cover either integrating cgi, building modules, views or whatever you want really.

I work with views in Drupal 6 every day, but I can for sure talk about the Views module in 7 or the fact that it's moving into core for 8. Let me know what you want me to discuss and I can be ready! I'm good from a GUI on most modules, but I'm not a programmer as you know, so it'd be nice to have both perspectives.

Nothing formal, I promise.

I posted this in the event

I posted this in the event posting, but I wouldn't mind doing something on Features. I will be around for this meet up. I think its a great tie in with views.

Yes, please!

I'm so glad you're coming to the meeting. I have a short presentation, and I think there will be time. Tim will be presenting as well, but I think something on Features would be -very- helpful for our folks.

I would love to hear about features.

My presence is always predicated on the weather, since I live in Palmer and don't work in Anchorage. I would be giving a short talk on what I am up to via importing existing content from non-drupal source. Should there be sufficient interest presented at the meeting or following, I can post some code.
cheers
Tim

Sorry. I must opt out.

I note that the freezing rain warning has been lifted, but in the balance, I will exercise the option to stay home and stay safe. By next meeting I should have more and better to present.
Have fun everybody.

Tim,

I completely understand! I'll put your presentation on for next month.

Best,
