Hello, I beggining to make the architecture of my future community web site. Not to go to the wrong way, I would like to know if my basics are good. I mean, if I choose the good modules.
The community will be build with User Relationship to manage the users and their relations types. I want let them to produce a product (Article with CCK fields) which will have a lifetime. The users linked (friends/coworkers/close to) will automatically know (facebook way - Activity) the existence of the article throughout its lifetime. And they'll could interact with comment (Comment Notify, CCK Field privacy and GMap).
Other users, not linked, should found the article with keywords or location search and need to be accepted by the article author, to comment.
Any suggestions or proof of concept to help me in my chooses will be great !

Prototyping is the way to go

You're right, there's a lot of modules involved in creating a community website, and some of them offer similar fonctionnality. The best way for you to choose is to test similar modules, just to see which one has the best GUI corresponding to what you need to have on your site. And then begin the real implementation.
Actually, the modules you mentionned in your post can provide the functionnalities you need, so I'd say you chose well ;)
Then it's just a matter of integration (for example User Relationship integrates with Activity, whereas Friendlist integrates with Heartbeat). You can prototype to compare what UI suits you best, but both combination of modules could be used for the site you want to build.
Regarding notifications, you can choose between Comment Notification / Subscriptions / Notifications (more generic, but more powerful ;)). It's always a compromise between complexity and power. Again, with a prototype, you can rapidly identify what is the more appropriate tool for you.
