How to uninstall unwanted platforms

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I just installed BOA, but since I did not know what it would do I installed lots of unwanted platforms, e.g. Drupal 6, which is now locked as hostmaster.
I could of course redeploy Linode and re-install the whole thing and re-select what I want, but I would like to know if there is a better way to do this.

Hostmaster is run on 6.x

Hostmaster is run on 6.x rather you choose to install core 6.x platforms or not.

I would like to uninstall

ckosloff's picture

I would like to uninstall that, not using or planning to use 6.x.
There are also other platforms that I installed that are not useful, so, how change that configuration?
Should I start everything over?
Lastly, the 7.x version installed is not the latest, I don't see how to use drush to update it.

How to update and Hostmaster Instance info

Anonymous's picture

The Hostmaster instance runs on Drupal 6.x. You do not have the option to change this to 7.x or remove the Hostmaster platform. However, you can remove any other optional platform by simply deleting it (as long as there are no sites built on it).

Being that this is a hosting platform, not a typical single Drupal install running on a LEMP/LAMP stack, you must follow the update guide when considering upgrading Drupal core and the BOA included contrib modules:

http://drupalcode.org/project/barracuda.git/blob/HEAD:/docs/UPGRADE.txt

Aside from this info, running your own BOA platform generally requires to either have some decent LEMP/LAMP admin experience or buy an instance from Omega.cc. Where they will fully support you, and then maybe move to your own VPS once you have adequate experience.

Please clarify: Supposing

ckosloff's picture

Please clarify:
Supposing that I select not to install D6 at setup, will hostmaster still be installed on D6?
I don't see where to delete unused/unwanted platforms, nothing is loaded yet.
I think that I will reinstall the whole thing, is there a list of platforms that can be installed?
I need that list so I can choose beforehand what I will install.
Lastly, I went through that blob document you mention, I don't understand what is meant by HEAD.
Thank you.

More info for you

Anonymous's picture

Selecting or not selecting D6 has no effect on the hostmaster platform.
HEAD is the lastest branch of the BOA documents that are hosted in the DrupalCode repo.

I think you will benefit from some BOA admin training. Check out the documentation over on project maintainers website: https://omega8.cc/library/aegir-basics-index. And also the video playlist that was put together by a user on YouTube of all known BOA training videos: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2ucNtcK94LC9aBCcfAtVsUr3agcmFNwl

Aegir, which is the 'A' in

sierraoscardelta's picture

Aegir, which is the 'A' in 'BOA' is built on a d6 platform, and you will have a hard time getting a working BOA install without it I would imagine. There is a dev version out there which is a d7 port but I'm not sure on progress of this.

Someone more knowledegable than I may offer some more info here but I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding about the technology you are trying to employ and should go back to the docs. From memory there is a very comprehensive email that is sent after successfully installing BOA, which the creators, Omega8cc, have put a lot of work into in order to help new users up and running.

If you want to remove a platform, I think I am correct in saying that you only need to go to your list of platforms and execute the 'delete' option on the chosen platform in order to add that action to the queue. It should only take a minute. I'm sure that is how i've done it in the past. Or you could simply remove the directory from within a terminal shell.

Are you able to log in to your aegir instance? If yes, can you list all your platforms? If yes, click on the platform you want to remove then click 'delete'. That should be you away laughing.

I would, however, suggest that if you are having these questions it may be best to host direct with omega8cc to take advantage of their support and experience, as their is quite a steep learning curve from here on in.

You're in good hands with this community though if you are a do-it-yourselfer!

Good luck.

As you can see here the option to delete a platform is not active, cannot click on "delete".
I could use a shell.
But, why is option not active?

Click run

Closing this thread

I deleted the other instances of D6 and nothing hangs now.
Closing this thread, this does not mean that I will not pester you with questions in the coming days, but only after reading all the docs, I promise.
Thanks for all the help.

this is how we learn

sierraoscardelta's picture

this is how we learn ckosloff. i had a hard time getting my head around it all myself. Don't give up though.

I am not giving up, thanks

I am not giving up, thanks for encouragement.

There are lots of documentation

aanjaneyam's picture

These are very basic things if your try to grab fundamentals regarding how aegir and BOA work.

There are lots of documentation, forum posts and group threads around which may have already discussed your problems. Just use google. If you spend some time and read them you will save a lot of time and frustration.

As stated in https://groups.drupal.org/node/396263#comment-1002883 above refer to http://omega8.cc . There are lots of articles there and in fact videos too.

As stated on the requirements of BOA. You must have basic system administration skills particularly if you are installing it on your own server. Learning basic fundamentals and sys admin skills by reading will defnitely save you lots and lots of time, give you convenience and also save you from imminent disasters in future resulting from not following good principles .
