Flash .swf as the preface_sidebar background image

Hey all, I'm loving the Acquia_Slate theme, but I've run into a small hitch which I can't figure out.

I want to make the background that is displayed, when the preface_sidebar is enabled, a .swf with Flash animation. The default is the super nice purple rocks with the mission statement in the bottom right corner.

I've done a tonne of fiddling and cannot get the overlay to work correctly. Normally, the background is an image (.jpg) and the preface_sidebar overlays the image with a very slick transparency - all defined in the .css.

While I can load the .swf with SWFTools in the page-front.tpl.php file, the Flash file, without fail, will always overwrite the overlay menu.

Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to add something to the template.php file? The .css file? I just can't ficgure it out.

Thanks for any advice!

Quick Update

In the time since I posted my question, I've been playing around a bit more. Is Java used to call the preface_sidebar menu? Something tells me it is.

Moreover, it seems like the Java call is what is being obscured by Flash and not taking top, for lack of a better term, "z-precedence."

Can anyone comment on this?

Flash issues with Javascript menus

jrdixey_'s picture

I can't comment specifically on trying to do what you're attempting, but I have run into this before with Flash and Javascript dropdown menus (suckerfish, etc). It has to do with the way Flash displays (by default it is on top of everything else). If you Google Flash and suckerfish you will see lots of people have run into this and there may be a workaround. Good luck.

Hey jrdixey, thanks so much

Hey jrdixey, thanks so much for your input.

I've researched the SuckerFish situation, and it looks very similar - damned if it solves my issue though... arrrgh. I might have to resort to simply using a snippet of the actual .swf image and manually "right" aligning it OVER an identical .jpg image. Talk about hack job....

Before you hack ...

Try this (if you haven't already). It seems setting the "wmode" parameter to transparent solves this problem. I haven't tried myself though. Let me know if this works.
