Please add comments that indicate where and when you might like to meet up in person.
If you want, add details about your interests regarding Drupal and anything else you want to say to introduce yourself.
Let's leave this thread open for a few weeks as we gather new people.

here's an idea for a meetup
i'm actually based in Madison, but i'm involved with the Midwest Social Forum, which is taking place at UWM in July. I'm hoping to see the MWSF take on Drupal/CivicSpace in the next 6 months in a big way. Lots of community groups who are looking for community IT and social software will also be there, so it's also an opportunity to network with folks who can really benefit from Drupal.
i should also mention that the Houston Social Forum used Drupal very effectively for their gathering last April.
We could even turn this into a workshop for community groups, if you all are interested. It looks like someone from Act Now Productions will be doing a CivicSpace workshop, but it isn't yet confirmed.

I'll be there
As it gets closer, let's crystallize a meetup location and time or some way for everyone to get in touch at the Forum.
Howdy
I'm based in Madison as well...
Right now working for DANEnet, a non-profit that does IT support for other non-profits, as an AmeriCorps VISTA. I'm certainly interested in some type of meetup, or workshop (or ultimately a Drupal Camp).
Howdy too
I'm also based in Madison. My organization's website (www.prwatch.org) is a Drupal installation, and both I and our webmaster would like to be in touch with other local Drupal users/developers. I happen to know that there is some interest at the UW-Madison in helping computer science students get some practical experience using Drupal to develop websites for nonprofit organizations, so it would be great if we could network with them as well.
Some other Drupal sites that I've created include:

Patricia and I have also had some experience with MediaWiki-based wiki development on CMD's other website, SourceWatch:

sounds great!
I'm on campus a lot (grad student in sociology) so I'd like to be involved in liaising with the CS department.
Maybe we should rename this group "Milwaukee/Madison"? or "Wisconsin"? Or should we start a new one? I think "Wisconsin" might make the most sense, so that rural folks feel welcome. Tom, in your group owner settings is it possible to change the name of the group? Or should the rest of us abandon you and start our own? ;-)

Proposal for a Meeting in Madison....
How does next Tuesday May 23rd work for folks?
I'm thinking maybe 6 or 7 pm at say Michelangelo's on State Street (they have free wifi)...
thoughts??
do you want to ...
enter this as an "event" using our Groups page here? If you need me to do that, I'm willing. Maybe if you just put it out there without advance RSVPs, people will still come.
ePICS
Just for the record, the project at UW that builds sites for non-profit organizations is called ePICS (e-Projects in Community Service):

There was an article in the Wisconsin State Journal about the program earlier this month highlighting the project expo:

We'd love collaboration if anyone is interested...
Another Wisconsinite
I too am a Drupal guy in Wisconsin - but I'm up in the NW corner of the state - just south of Menomonie, WI.
I'm currently working on a number of sites, and have a few up and running - the most interesting of which are Fedorazine - http://www.fedorazine.com, which I'm in the process of moving to Drupal right now, and Uppity Wisconsin, which is a progressive political site - http://www.uppitywis.org.
I'm interested in talking to anyone in this area that has interests in Drupal, or progressive politics.
Oh - and I too have been in touch with the Midwest Social Forum folks, who indicated an interest but I haven't heard much for a week or so.

my interests
I've co-founded a nonprofit with aspirations to build a website to further democracy. Drupal is what we settled on for iteration #1.
So, needless to say, I'm interested in the services offered by the university group. And I'm very familiar with Sheldon's work with CMD--and a fan.
change group name?
I created a poll that will be open for seven days, to have us decide democratically what to call this group.
It seems like most posts have been from Madison, so Milwaukee seems like the tag-a-long for now.
I don't think this change would preclude Steve or anyone else from starting a regional Wisconsin or city-based group.
Maybe Wisconsin is the best initial choice for this group, and we can hold a poll at a later time to decide whether to split the group or disband it. Even if lots of city or regional groups eventually pop up, it might be nice to keep a state-wide group, to team up on a higher level.
login problems
There's one thing that makes my experience with groups.drupal.org a little annoying and makes updating our group's page more of a chore than it should be.
Does anyone else have the following problem?
I can't login using my Drupal login ID (tomcalloway@drupal.org) NOR the extra ID I created on groups.drupal.org (tomcalloway2 or tomcalloway). Every time, I have to "request new password" and use the one-time link to access the admin functions. I sent this issue to Moshe, but I'm curious if anyone else had this problem.
I have had have a couple of
I have had have a couple of login problems, but not exactly the same as
what you are describing. I had to reset my password when I logged in today
(got "unrecognized user" at first); but after I saw your post I logged out and
then logged back in without a problem. (Note that I have the same username
on d.o and g.d.o, but they are separate accounts; have not tried using the
distributed login because I created the "orbert@g.d.o" account before they
had enabled distributed login on g.d.o.)
unofficial vote count
I've changed the name of the group to "Wisconsin" since we have 4 votes for that out of 7 current group members. Unless new members sign up and the vote swings toward another choice, I'll leave the name as it now is.
Rotating Group Managers
I like the concept of frequently-rotating roles for some types of groups. To relieve individuals of their duties and spread around the chance to be group manager, I intend to hand-off manager privileges for this group on July 1.
To make it simple, I'll just ask the person who signed-up chronologically after me, and if they decline, then the next person.
I'm not sure if it's technically-possible to do that, but I'll find out before July 1.
Hello From Beloit
Hi:
Another county heard from, way on down south.
As to group name: I agree that more inclusive is better, but I think maybe
"Wisconsin" is overstating things if we're clustered in the Southeast. For now
I'd be equally happy with "SE Wisconsin" or "Milwaukee/Madison." {Whoops,
I see I'm a bit late with that. OK, "Wisconsin" be it.}
I don't have any Drupal implementations to show yet, but I'm working
on that.
As to the gathering: Tuesday evening in Madison sounds great.
on SE Wisconsin
Hey, in my opinion, Orbert, I think everyone should feel free to create separate groups for SE Wisconsin or specific counties/cities--noting Moshe's guidelines on the home page for groups.drupal.org
People will naturally frequent the groups that best fit them, so we can see which ones among a diverse set are the most viable over time.
Milwaukee-based
Hi all - I'm in the Milwaukee area and have a full schedule this week, so a jaunt to Madison isn't real likely, but I'll keep my eyes open for a Milwaukee meeting.
I've started a couple of Drupal sites and have run them in a largely hands-off manner for a year or so. When I find the time, I'm looking forward to upgrading to 4.7 and making use of some of the newer modules and theming options.
New member from Madison
I am new to Drupal, and to this group.
I am co-chair of Allies for Racial Equity, an organization of anti-racism activists within the Unitarian Universalism faith community. We have downloaded Drupal 5.1 (soon to be 5.2). We need someone to help us get it stable, with its initial configuration of hi-priority modules, and with a starter theme (I’d like to do a custom theme, but that is not a priority right now).
In my work life, I am a software development best practices consultant, specializing in the Unified Process and UML modeling. So the (possibly) good news is that I can represent the requirements cleanly, as use case diagrams, some UCes detailed in text or with activity and communication diagrams. I know lots about modeling software systems, but I did not come up the technical side (I a a former art director). I need someone that can be handson with the technology.
I'm looking for some help, so if you folks have suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you. I posted to the consulting email list, and I have gotten one reply. The idea of finding a UW student that I could work with directly is appealing.
Our priority is to get CiviCRM installed, integrated with an election voting-capable module. It is possible that I could use CivicSpace, but it is not clear how constraining that might be.
Any suggestions about where to look for a consultant that could help?
(I would vote for "Wisconsin").
