Dear Friends,

Thank you all for attending Drupal Camp Mumbai ! The event was a great success, and couldn't have happened without everyone who helped organize, volunteer, sponsor, and present. It was really wonderful to see the community come together, and we look forward to continuing the conversation with you all! Below is the brief recap of the event..

With a fresh spring in their step, Mumbai's Drupal community and open source enthusiasts from across India gathered together for the year's first DrupalCamp in India. The region's biggest DrupalCamp till date saw over 400 registrations, with Day 1 playing host to 300+ attendees and Day 2's code sprints and hackathon witnessing 100+ participants.

On February 8th, near-perfect weather greeted crowds swarming into the TCS venue for DrupalCamp Mumbai for what would turn out to be a fantastic experience. Sponsor companies, TCS, Axelerant, Blisstering Solutions and Iksula were all there in full force at the registration hall, meet and greet section, with attendees mingling with and getting to know what various companies are working on.

The crowd soon moved to the TCS Induction Center Auditorium, where Acquia's Jeffrey A. “jam” McGuire was all pumped up and gave event's keynote 'Connecting Open Minds' via a hangout on air. The hour long introductory talk saw “jam” share reasons why Drupal's succeeding world-over and how the platform and community can grow even bigger in the years ahead. You can view the keynote recording here -

Following the keynote were two exquisite panel discussions. The first panel, moderated by Vinay Dora, 'Open Governance and Open Source' discussed technology in governance and how Drupalers can contribute more actively. The panelists included an open source advocate in Gujarat-based IAS officer M Nagarajan, avid drupalers Ankur Gupta from and Sumeet Pareek who developed the website as well as GetRTI technologist Harish Krishnan and renowned business journalist and founder of Mumbai based firm, Govindraj Ethiraj.

The second panel, moderated by Ani Gupta, 'Understanding Drupal and the Communities Around' had some of the most popular names and developers of the open source community in India, they included Aakash Dharmadhikari from and co-organiser of RubyConf India, Dipen Chaudhary, passionate drupaler & founder of, Gobinath Mallaiyan, DCM event organizer & solutions architect with TCS, Amit Singh wordpress community organiser and Prashant KV, curator of

These tracks in the auditorium were followed by a range carefully-picked sessions. The sessions included ones on Drupal security, Agile in Drupal, Pervasive computing with Drupal, Drush, MongoDB and Node.js for Drupal applications, Angular.js integration with Drupal and much more. We also had some unique presentations in Devops Culture and the introduction of the Women in Drupal community. The sessions rooms saw packed audiences, with standing room only crowds! Very cool.

Simultaneously alongside the sessions, CXOs from large companies as well as startups pursuing Drupal and other open source technologies got together at the roundtable to share learnings and together brainstorming the route-map ahead.

For the young and entrepreneurially-minded, the country largest organization fostering entrepreneurship, organized a Business Model Canvas workshop.

The day ended with a high-decibel After Party to celebrate with new and old friends and unwind after months of hard work, stress and determination to bring it all together. Some of us continued till the wee hours in the morning, with the sun peeking above the horizon urging us to get ready for Day 2 ;).

Day 2 saw several open source enthusiasts and hackers get hands on and in style. The day had a special Hackathon organized by excellent folks from Codeniti/Codegurukul. The hacks there included working on a social app that combined Github and Twitter, a to-do app with IMDB integration with Tumblr, and another which would never let one miss a game while on gmail, as live scores are streamed right into their inbox.

The Drupal code sprint on the other hand saw a lot of focused and planned effort that saw over 10 Drupal 8 issues attempted to be fixed. The patches created have now moved on to the next steps and are under review by peers. We hope to contribute them back to in the true spirit of the Drupal community.

All in all, this event was one amazing value-driven, dynamic, fun-filled and meticulously organised DrupalCamp and a great start to the year for the burgeoning Drupal community across India. We are determined to stay connected with all that participated and together build an even larger community of awesome drupalers and open source enthusiasts.

Keep tuned. There will more exciting announcements to come from us in the weeks forward.

This is but a beginning!
