For anyone out of town. I have room for 1 person /1 couple to stay overnight at my place.

    Roadmobile's picture

It would be just me. And if someone else has a greater need, than please just let me know. Shoot, I stay in my truck as long as your Ok with it in the driveway. LOL

Point is that I don't want someone not coming for lack of a place to stay....

    Cheers.

Yep thats fine as long as you

    c13l0's picture

Yep thats fine as long as you don't mind sleeping on an airmattress. Might want to bring sandals and swimsuit as I'm right next to the beach. I will pm you my address.

    Other possiblities...

    acmaintainer's picture

I have 2 guest rooms, so can accommodate more. Heck, we can put a cot in the library and someone in the truck camper (red neck quest room), so don't worry about space for others:-) Take the beach house!!!!

    Room at the Inn

I, too, have room for out-of-towners. Though I am located 1.5 hours away, in the Daytona area.

    Car pooling

I'm signed up, so I'll plan on car pooling with you Saturday morning. :-)

...and bringing others from up north is a great idea. My address is 4020 Cow Creek Rd, Edgewater. It is exactly 2 miles down Cow Creek from SR 442. Cow Creek is right near the I-95 exit, so it will be a quick jog to my place.

Welcome back. Mind if I hitch

Welcome back. Mind if I hitch a ride?

    The more the merrier

    acmaintainer's picture

    No problem.....

I need to drive down myself

    jaegra's picture

I have some things to do in Merritt Island after the workshop, so I'll not need to carpool after all. Sorry for the late notice. See you tomorrow!

    That's okay

    See you there.

Anyone need a ride from the Ormond/Daytona area?

    Take Note! Important...

I am thinking of signing up. I live in Pompano Beach, South Florida, about 142 miles from Melbourne, carpool anybody?

Thanks Cielo - timing is everything

    magellen's picture

Well, I knew I'd have to move some mountains to be able to attend the workshop... and I've managed to nudge a few out of the way so I will definitely be there. I'm just sorry we can't host some people but our house is totally cleared out and on the market so can't really do that. A month ago I'd have been able to host several groups but the timing has proved challenging for me. Thanks Cielo for setting all this up and organizing everything. You are truly a bright star in the sky. I looked up images for Cielo and there are some wonderful ones

    Sponsor a drupaler

    c13l0's picture

    Hey guys/gals,

We have a few people in our community that will not be able to attend due to financial difficulties. If anyone would be willing step up to the plate and sponsor someone, it would be truly appreciated. Please post here or message me if you would like to remain anonymous.

    Thanks so much!
    Cielo

@maggie, you made my day :D

    You guys freaking rock!!

    c13l0's picture

    Seriously,

Within minutes, I received 3 messages to sponsor someone! We still need 1 more sponsor and would be great if we had a few more sponsors on standby.

We also have 1 person that needs a spot to crash in the south/mid Brevard area.

    Thank you to another sponsor

    c13l0's picture

A big thank you to another sponsor! While you maybe tired of me filling up your inbox, I never get tired of reminding everyone how strong and supportive our community is.

Are you planning to attend but haven't signed up yet?

    c13l0's picture

I have spoken with at least 4 people who said they are attending but haven't signed up. Since I have heard various reasons...I will address them here =)

Reason 1: I thought when I posted in the other "head count" thread, it counted.
Answer: Nope, Please officially sign-up in this post!

    Reason 2: I don't see a sign up button.
Answer: You must be logged in. The sign-up is directly below the initial post. It also sends you a nice email reminder.

Reason 3: I can't get logged into groups.drupal.org, my password is wrong.
Answer: Yep, Drupal reset everyones password due to heartbleed. Click on "forgot my password". You will get a one time log-in link in your email. Log in and change your password.

Hope that clears some issues up.

Reminder: Take some time and set up your clean drupal install.
    Cheers!

    Booking room at Super 8

    ckosloff's picture

I have done some research and found that the most affordable hotel room, and closest to the venue, is Super 8, price is shy of $60 per night, includes breakfast, microwave, cofee maker. Approx. $130 for two nights.
I intend to book it for two nights, will arive Friday 23 in the evening and depart Sunday after a dip in the ocean. Some money can be saved by breakfast and cooking in.
Does somebody want to share cost of room? An extra bed can be arranged for. I am a male, no BS, only interested in the workshop.
Also, I will be driving from Pompano Beach, anybody interested in sharing costs?
You insider guys in Melbourne, do you know of a better solution?
Please reply ASAP to ckosloff at hardwarealien period com so I can make arrangements.

    I would recommend steering

    bhosmer's picture

I would recommend steering clear of that hotel.

You might try looking in Melbourne Beach. It is only a ten or fifteen minute drive to the venue.

Cocoa also has a few hotels as well. It would be about a thirty minute drive to the venue from there.

    Thanks for the follow up

    ckosloff's picture

Hmm, did some more research and could not find anything in my price range in Melbourne Beach, so I did go ahead and booked Super 8 for 2 nights.
Location is not far from venue, breakfast included, internet and parking too.
It's only for 2 nights and I don't mind to have some roaches for dinner :-)
Still looking for someone to share expenses with.

    Super 8

    GeoCamp's picture

I second the response from bhosner. Not a great location. There are a lot of Holiday Inn Express in the area as well as Econo Lodge and others on the I95 exits in Palm Bay and Melbourne. All within a short drive to Trep Hub.

    Super 8

    BeachsidePaul's picture

I third this. The Hilton Rialto Place is $94 prepaid no cancel right now and please believe us, the roaches at the Super 8 are really of a low quality!

    Thanks for all answers but

    ckosloff's picture

Thanks for all answers but too late, I already booked and in order to get the best rate ($59.49) I had to make it non-refundable.
I believe the roaches stuff, but that is nothing compared to other places I have been.
The bright side is that I will get to know the area and will know where to go next time, see you all at the workshop.

    Okay that's cool but ...

    BeachsidePaul's picture

... please send GeoCamp next of kin info before you come up :-) He's the Brevard designated info-spreader! Have a good drive up and we'll see you at the meeting.

    Already pm him, but still

    ckosloff's picture

Already pm him, but still unclear about what is needed, next of kin?

    Oh my I'm sorry

    BeachsidePaul's picture

That is just my bad sense of humor, I'm really sorry. "Next of kin" just means who to notify if you should be found dead from bad cockroaches. I need to learn to control my, "often misunderstood", sense of humor. I'm really sorry, all is fine and we'll see you next weekend!

    it's not bad, I kinda

    ckosloff's picture

it's not bad, I kinda imagined that, no need to be sorry.
Actually I was about to retort that if you were going to notify my wife, be prepared to hear her nagging!

Installing a web server on a Debian Linux PC

    ckosloff's picture

I am planning of putting this workshop in a presentation or pdf with lots of snapshots, basically the skeleton of building a website based on data modeling and not on taxonomy, to be published at browarddrupal.org.
I am concerned that, if attendees don't have the right setup in their computers, we will be losing time with irrelevant questions.
I recently published (this year) a presentation in same website about installing Drupal in a local Linux server, I focused on Debian because that is what I use.
I am aware that I am in a small minority here, but if you ever decide to install Debian alongside Windows (the Debian installer does this automatically), you can profit from reading that.
Lastly, I use the testing (or next) branch, so I am always ahead of the stable branch, there is a caveat here: in the testing branch the document root changed from /var/www to /var/www/html.

    Coffee Maker

    c13l0's picture

Just found out it is 16.99 per box of coffee which only serves 10 small cups. Could someone volunteer to bring a coffee maker (and filters) to the workshop?

I have the coffee grounds, sugar, cream covered. I don't have any non-sugar sweetener so if you have dietary restrictions, you might want to bring your own =)

Please bring your own favorite coffee mug as we will have a show-and-tell

    Urn

    BeachsidePaul's picture

C13LO, do they have a kitchen area at the meeting location? I will get a 42 cup urn but it obviously can not be filled from a bathroom type sink :-) It does not require filters but it would be good to have cup/mug to drink out of, tried holding my head under spout but burnt mouth badly. Let me know, Paul

    Coffee

    acmaintainer's picture

I can bring a coffee maker, filters, stir sticks, foam cups, napkins, stevia, agave and any other weird (talking about me) or non-sugar sweeteners. Have coffee, will travel. I can bring fresh ground coffee if you think we might need more.

    Yes! Definitely bring it. I

    c13l0's picture

Yes! Definitely bring it. I was kinda hoping some people will bring their own coffee mugs to help with the environment. I have a brick of Bustello but not sure how many pots of coffee as I only make 1 cup at a time at home.

    Will do

    acmaintainer's picture

    Will bring all.

I apologize in advance that this comment is off subject, but I can't find any other way to contact a webmaster. I received an email that my company spammed this comment section. I in no way support spamming, and I truly apologize for the annoyance of any spam that was from my company. If there is anyway someone can contact me so I can track down who posted this to make sure it does not happen again I would greatly appreciate it.

    c13l0's picture

Just a shout out as a reminder that the workshop is in the morning. There is plenty of parking directly across the street in the parking garage (not sure if there is a charge). I will be there at 9am if anyone wants to get in early. Don't forget to bring your own coffee cup for show-and-tell and have a fresh D7 install =)

It appears the first three hours of the parking garage are free but doesn't state how much more after that. I guess we can move cars around after lunch ;)

Here is a screen shot of trephub and parking garage across the street for those who are coming in from out of town.

C13L0 Thank you for listing the links to the modules and making it really easy to download them. Thank you for all the information and facilitating this workshop. See you soon!

Before the subject goes to bed!

    BeachsidePaul's picture

Well the event has ended and, I must say, it was a hell of a ride! Jay tolerated all of us like a real champ and managed to make it through an event lasting MORE THAN 10 HOURS! What a great presentation and unbelievable learning experience, now we're all back in our "quiet place" and attempting to digest what each of us learned.

Jay (jeppy64), I can't tell you how much I (and everyone there) appreciated your time, energy and patience! You were a wonderful speaker and a truly talented IT guru, thanks for sharing all. I'm sure we are all looking forward to your return trip to Brevard to give us a follow-up on Parent-Client and the "missed" Rules section from yesterday! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and your, all too limited, time.

C13L0, What can I say? Your seemingly never-ending energy and dedication to making this event the fantastic success it was will go down in Brevard Drupal lore! Thank you for all your labor, time and expense, the whole thing was damn near perfectly orchestrated and will not be forgotten!

    Kudos

    acmaintainer's picture

I could not have expressed it any better.

    Hooray Jay

    sparker888's picture

My head is still spinning after that workshop, but I got all the basic concepts down and know the 'path' to making all this work in Drupal.

Jay, you're a trooper for pulling through on a very difficult task. You held up like a champ and kept encouraging us! Major kudos for your fantastic performance!!

A few constructive suggestions for your future workshops and taking these concepts to the Drupal masses:

    • The workshop should be two days.

It's just too much to cram all of this into one day. And the problem I had is that if you get behind and have to go back to fix something, it's almost impossible to catch up.

    • I'd suggest an online series of videos and supporting docs (maybe even downloads and a reference site).

You and I talked about perhaps putting something up to showcase this new parent-child development paradigm. After going through this, I'd love to have a video (series) where I can stop and pause it when I'm trying to build this out. I'm still happy to help.

Some things to think about anyway...

Hats off to Cielo and all the others that put this on! Outstanding!! Thank you so much. It was worth all the effort, and I definitely came away a better Drupaleer.

    Cheers!

Bring Your Site to Life! sm

Thank you to all the PCDM Attendees

    jeppy64's picture

Just got home and wanted to stop in and say thank you to all for coming and enduring a marathon geek session. I know it was a whole lot to take in at one sitting but if you break it all down, each of you completed a complex site and have a valuable piece of reference material and a site that we can continue to build up piece by piece.

Here's a summary to review just what all of you accomplished in one single day:

    • Extensive project documentation and application knowledge.
    • Modeling a relational event management system from documentation on the PCDM concept.
    • Understanding the importance of modules, how they interact and the foundation, pillar and floor concept upon which our site thrives.
    • Extensive knowledge of content types, fields, formatters, and widgets.
    • Adding elegance to a node UI screen by implementing field groups with multiple related child nodes and management on a single node screen.
    • Creating a View with multiple displays.
    • The power of the contextual filter.
    • Views relationships and accessing content based on relationships.
    • The Views global text field and just how much can be done with it.

And a bunch more items that I haven't listed above!

You are ALL rock stars in my eyes and I look forward to working together to build this new site to completion.

I know the Rules and Dashboard portions got ditched but I will post a simple step by step list on how to complete both of these. (easy stuff.. promise)

I do agree with Stephen on the idea of a series of instructional media. Several of you have offered to help with this and I welcome the collaboration and chance to work with you.

Cielo whipped this workshop up single handed and pulled off an outstanding day start to finish and I cannot thank her enough for all the effort and results.

Thanks again to all. So... when's the next road trip? Say the word and I'm there!

Shall we say next Saturday? And then maybe we can cover massive data migration on Sunday? Hey, that way you can just wash clothes, repack and get back on the road :-) Thanks again, Paul

Hi everyone, we just made it

    randyf99's picture

Hi everyone, we just made it back to our space in Miami, What a fantastic experience! We can't thank everyone enough for making us feel right at home! Jay, I have no words, but these. YOU ROCK!!! The session is one of the best I have ever attended, and your patience and thoroughness throughout the workshop, even into the late hours was amazing. I look forward to more, and I too can assist with the videos and setting up a great series on all of this. I hope to see everyone real soon. all the best!!

    Awesome!

Thank you Jay for driving up to do this workshop. I know that I've learned much more than I would have on my own. I'm looking forward to future workshops! And Cielo did a fantastic job coordinating everything. Thanks to all who helped out.

Can we grab the finished workshop site on a repo for reference?

    Thanks, Jay! It was a

    czarzhan's picture

Thanks, Jay! It was a pleasure meeting you. I learned quite a bit. I'm just sorry I had to miss the overtime session.

Cielo, you did an excellent job organising this workshop and making sure it happened. Kudos. :)

    Good work, everybody!

    My $.02

    ckosloff's picture

I think that the best way to go around this is that everybody sit back and try to digest what we learned before asking Jay for another presentation.
We all have the spreadsheet with the info on how to create content types and fields.
It will save time if we at least have a clean site, modules loaded in order, content types and fields under the belt so the speaker instead of walking us through that stuff again can focus on the nitty gritty.
Videos, recording and a summary of the steps (preferably with screenshots) are definitely the way to go, we need to have all that ready before asking the speaker to come again.
Jay has a tarball of the site, it could be uploaded to browarddrupal.org or any other similar site, I can uploaded it too.
The speaker expects us to do a lot of work on our own, so disregard Paul's suggestion of rushing him up next Saturday, I know from experience that man ain't serious :-)
If we all do our job of digesting this stuff as much as possible another presentation could wrap it up.
Brevard is the most dynamic group in Florida, excellent job C13L0!

    We couldn't have pulled this

    c13l0's picture

We couldn't have pulled this off without every single one of you that attended. It was a group effort!

    1. Jay - You are awesome. What more can be said?
    2. Those who covered the cost for others to attend
    3. Geocamp - Ice chest coffin, ice, tea, doughnuts, and more
    4. BeachsidePaul - Purchased the huge coffee urn and kept coffee being made for us during the day
    5. Acemaintainer - Brought her coffee pot, coffee, cups, sugar, tea, papertowels and all the other stuff we needed to go along
    6. Magellan - I know you brought things to share too! I can't remember everything as it was hectic. However, my cell phone went dead and you loaned me your charger. Without it, we wouldn't have been able to get in touch with anyone to let us in. I still have your charger btw =)
    7. lscook - You brought things too but I can't remember what so I apologize.
    8. Many of you stayed even later to help clean up, wipe down tables, and take out the garbage.

(I apologize if I missed anyone)

We are certainly going to do this again and make a few changes such as lunch. Overall it was a great success and looking forward to our next event =)

    Can I get the video?

    kwkag's picture

I had planned for weeks to attend but I was sick Saturday morning and couldn't make it. I hope there will be videos available. I thought one of the reasons for selecting Trephub was that they had the equipment to record the session.
    I'm sorry I missed it.
