Canceling a subscription through the paypal IPN

I've been looking for a solution to this where I don't have to go in and modify the code and am wondering if anyone else has come across the same issue.

I have a subscription (recurring payment) that I need to track. I am using the paypal payment module, inside the ecommerce module, currently for this and I am noticing that the module drops all the IPN posts that don't have payment_status. The issue that I am having with this is when the user logs into Paypal and cancels the subscription, an IPN gets sent to me and doesn't have a payment_status field in it, it does have a txn_type of subscr_cancel but that information gets dropped since the notification doesn't include that a payment status.

How do I use the paypal module and mark when the subscription has been canceled?

I've also looked at LM_Paypal and it does a pretty nice job of this but I am going to have to integrate different payment methods so I was hoping to stay with the Ecommerce module.

Please let me know if you've had any experience with this and ways that you've gotten around it.
