Hello Friends,

I work for a library system here in Oklahoma and we are getting ready to launch with our first public Drupal site. I have some questions and I'm curious if anyone would be willing to sit down for coffee or a quick phone conversation. I have a couple of questions about the htaccess and ensuring our new site is secure. I have worked with Drupal for 4 years on a private server but this will be my first public deployment. If anyone would be willing, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks,

Kellie

What exactly do you need help

What exactly do you need help with? Ensuring that the configuration on the Drupal side is secure?

For Apache, Drupal's default .htaccess is sufficient. (If you're running Nginx, I recommend looking at using the config at https://github.com/perusio/drupal-with-nginx.)

For the Drupal side, that depends on what you're needing. A lot of it boils down to making sure all access controls are in place. For example, one place that is often overlooked is Views.

If you use IRC, there's several other Okies in the #drupal-oklahoma channel. I can also be found in the #techlahoma channel. My IRC nick is VeggieMeat.

Please come to our DUG meetings

The best way to get free Drupal advice in person from some of the top Drupal experts in Oklahoma is to attend our Drupal Users' Group (DUG) meetings on the third Thursday of every month. Our next meeting will be August 21, 2014, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Francis Tuttle campus on Rockwell in the Information Technology building. Announcements with more details are posted here a day in advance.

For advice on a daily basis, as Brian Altenhofel mentioned, most of our Oklahoma Drupalers hang out in the IRC channel #drupal-oklahoma which you can access through http://webchat.freenode.net/

Another great option is to attend the open Friday programming sessions at http://worxco.com/ in Oklahoma City. You can message kvanderw for more information, or just attend our next DUG meeting for more details. You will need to bring your own laptop, and internet connection is available there.

We usually have a special speaker for the DUG meetings plus open an open question-and-answer time, and you are always free to strike up discussion with an attendee who specializes in your area of interest. The following topics are some we are considering for future meetings:

CSS for UX, UI & Layout
Navigation
Themes
UI & UX
Contextual Administration
Drupal 8 (always a fun topic for the next few years)
Specific Modules:
Views
Panels
Commerce
Media
Search
Module writing
Integration to other systems

We hope to meet you soon.
