I have installed Acquia Desktop and am looking for some one willing to offer guidance. I have reviewed videos and read much material and am looking for direction on what would be the best approach for building a website for a non-profit. The existing site is built in Joomla. I want to replicate it for my own learning and to offer it as an alternative as the organization will be growing and believe this platform will better serve that. I have started documenting functionality and would like someone with experience to point me to the best components for the job. Anyone interested?
Thanks, cheers,
Mark

Drupal for non-profits
Hi Mark,
I have built a couple of websites for nonprofits, and I can heartily recommend an alternative to Acquia called Open Outreach. Like Aquia, it is a distribution designed to speed up the process of launching a website, with recommended features, etc. But it is designed for non-profits, and works right out of the box.
Go to their website and browse the list of features, and then look at other nonprofits using it. My church and a friend's web radio program are available for your perusal as well.
And if you need the capability to accept donations, I recommend installing Ubercart for that functionality. This package comes with a series of step-by-step videos for installing this "shopping cart" onto a standard Drupal installation. It can be installed on an Open Outreach distribution as well. But do it at the beginning, don't wait until later like I did.
Good luck!
