Hi Everyone!
We're organizing a Panopoly sprint on Saturday, September 6th, from 10am to 4pm CDT (UTC-0500).
The sprint will be "officially virtual," meaning anyone can participate over the internet from anywhere in the world. (However, we're also going to have a physical location to meetup for people in Milwaukee, WI, USA - more details on that below)
A "sprint" is an event where a group of people get together to work on something for a few hours. Sprints aren't limited to technical people or coders - people of all skill sets can contribute. However, as a virtual sprint, it will be a little easier for more technical people to get involved.
Here is a documentation describing all the ways you can contribute:
Our primary goal for this sprint, is to try to reduce the number of issues in the issue queue. At the moment we have 277 open issues, including 111 bugs. I'd really love to get the open issues down to 200 and the bugs to 50. :-)
Anyway, that means we really need help with these things in particular:
- Confirming bugs, ie. trying to reproduce the problem and see if it's a real bug
- Testing patches and seeing if they do what the issue says they do
- Tagging and triaging issues, ie. organizing the issues so they're easier to manage
- Doing code review on patches to make sure they follow best practices (for coders)
- Writing patches to fix confirmed bugs (for coders)
But you're not limited to those things! You can also help by writing documentation, creating Behat tests, finding new bugs in Panopoly, etc.
Read more to learn how to participate, what you'll need, and info about the physical sprint room in Milwaukee!
How to participate
If you want to participate:
- Sign-up for the event using the form on this page (so we have an idea of who's coming)
- Join us in IRC on September 6th, in the #panopoly channel on irc.freenode.net. If you've never used IRC before (it's basically just text-based chat rooms), check out this great documentation about setting up IRC.
Things you will need
Since this is a virtual sprint (rather than an in-person sprint), it'll be a lot harder for us to help you setup your computer to contribute. So, that means you'll have to spend more time in advance getting everything you need setup!
Please see the "Things you will need" section in this document and get ready in advance:

(BTW, if you'd be more interested in a sprint in-person and you aren't in Milwaukee, WI, USA, there will also be a Panopoly sprint at DrupalCon Amsterdam! More details on that will be posted on g.d.o/panopoly soon)
Local sprint room in Milwaukee, WI, USA
Because I'm located in Milwaukee, I'm going to reserve a conference room at a local co-working space where anyone in the area can come sprint together. If you've got multiple people in your city also participating, I encourage you to do the same!
We'll be at The Hudson on 310 E. Buffalo St.
There's lots of street parking to the east and there are several parking structures off of Water St.
Anyway, hope to (virtually) see you there!

Comments
The sprint was a success!
At the sprint we had 9 participants in total! We got 16 patches committed, and probably moved forward on that many again (unfortunately, it didn't occur to me to keep track of the issues so I don't have exact numbers).
A couple of the participants were first time sprinters and at least one (maybe two?) had patches committed to a Drupal.org project for the first time!
We've got two more sprints planned before the end of the year (info comming soon!) so there will be more opportunities to join in the fun and make Panopoly better. :-)
Thanks everyone who participated!!
Great work! And thanks for
Great work! And thanks for putting this together!
I think the next sprint needs to be down here in the Carolinas. :-)
