Google Summer of Code 2014 is over and we are planning to write a summary of the entire Summer of Code experience. We want to all the students/mentors to write a one-line summary of their experience/takeaways from the program. Eventually we can post collect and post all the user stories together (something like: http://google-opensource.blogspot.in/2014/01/google-summer-of-code-veter...). So, please comment below in one line describing your experience.

This post, when complete will also be posted on Google's open source blog.

With GSoC, students significantly participated in getting Drupal 8 core and contrib ready. Thank you for making this happen!

Drupal 8 + Google Summer of Code

I had a great experience as a first time GSoC mentor, and I'm excited to see all of the fresh new talent that came in to help contribute to Drupal 8!

First time mentor

This was my first GSoC as a mentor and I enjoyed it! The learning curve was quite steep for my student and I felt her pain since many of the APIs she needed were unstable and not documented. In the end she managed to "survive" the learning curve and release a working alpha version of https://www.drupal.org/project/rdfui for D8.

For me it was my first GSoC,

For me it was my first GSoC, and I started as a mentor overviewing the creation and porting of the Elasticsearch Connector module to Drupal 8. The student had face the difficulties of Drupal 8 but also the whole Search API ecosystem which was luckily stable enough. It certainly added another dimension.

So with that in mind, the sentence I want to bring forth is the following:

GSoC provides opportunities that are unseen in the world of Open Source industries. Drupal 8 will thrive, and partly it's due to GSoC and the influx of those students in Drupal. Thanks!

First GSoC with Drupal

My first time as a GSoC student is pretty exciting, and although it was tough in the beginning, with loads of help form my mentor, I was able to complete the module RDF UI for Drupal 8.

The best part of GSoC is the opportunity be a part of a Open Source community, which is a venture we're unlikely to explore so soon if not for GSoC and to see your hard work put into actual use,.

Coding for such a big project as Drupal was a great honour for me. GSoC helped me to discover Drupal community and to make my summer an exciting experience.

Thanks to everybody,

One can think that only the students learn, it's not always true. Mentors (especially with several years of industry experience) can learn enthusiasm from their students. It was great to work with Lucian (https://www.drupal.org/user/2743803)!

Best summer ever !

Being a first time GSoCer and also being new to Drupal and open source software development, the learning curve was obviously steep. But having the opportunity to learn so many new things thoughout the summer kept me motivated.
