There seems to be enough interest in a regular meeting in the vicinity of Bellevue to warrant discussion. It's been proposed that this be in addition to the regular third-Thursday meeting in Seattle.

Let's discuss dates, locations, and who would like to organize the event.

Location/days

Hello, seems that there are about 3 of us that would be interested in meeting on the Eastside. Maybe there are more lurking out there that would join us as well.

I would suggest meeting on another day than Thursday. Maybe that is a bad night for some people so they don't attend the Seattle meetings because of that.

I don't mind helping to coordinating these, but I am a Project Manager and not a dev so my choice in topics may not represent the rest of the group.

Mike - do you know of other companies on the Eastside that use Drupal, other than Datasphere?

Nope

I don't know of any others in the Bellevue area. There are only 5 posts tagged Bellevue, most of them are for jobs and the one from 2009 is the position I ended up filling. The next ones Baobab Foods & BCC are on wordpress, the one after that appears to be dead and the one from 2014 appears to be wordpress as well.

+1 for Eastside meeting

I'm on the Eastside and would love for there to be a SeaDUG (BellDUG??) meeting on this side of the water. I work from home so I can't really help with a location but I would definitely attend.

Eastside meetup I'm more

Eastside meetup I'm more likely to attend.

Took over an hour to get from Bellevue to meeting time before last.

Not going thru that again unless extremely motivated for some reason.

Any day after 5:00 with two

Any day after 5:00 with two weeks advance notice would work to make sure the location is not reserved

Locations close to transit

I have been to a few Seattle meetings, but generally do not go because I am on the Eastside. I would attend more frequently if the location were closer to transit. The 545 goes straight to and from Redmond and is an easy bus ride after work.

If we did an Eastside meeting then I would still suggest something with convenient transit. If we go Bellevue, then something near the Bellevue transit center. DeVry University is right there and might allow folks to reserve rooms, but maybe parking would be an issue. The Bellevue Regional Library is three blocks away and has parking. You can reserve rooms at the library too.

bellevue college

I don't know if it's possible but Bellevue College would be another location to consider after downtown Bellevue; BCC is very close to the eastgate park & ride, so close that Seattle people could attend via bus without too much hassle. Their website says $140 for a 4 hour rental (non profit rate) with a projector.

My understanding from the

My understanding from the meeting I attended last week is, a relaxed atmosphere with some beverage and plenty & easy parking and open communication that may not necessarily be very quite with a screen and hopefully no cost to increase attendance. Last meeting, it took me 20-25 minutes to find parking! The location I am suggesting is right on Market Street in Kirkland, no fees, access top refrigerator and covered parking. This is just to support Drupal org.
There is bus stop right in front of the building.

I'm in Redmond and I run Black Antelope, which is a primarily-Drupal agency. The company is completely virtual though, so I'm the only guy in the Seattle area. I focus more on the design side of things, but a meetup sounds cool!

+1 for Eastside....

Hi All,

It used to get very taxing for me to travel all the way to Seattle during the peak of the rush hour from Eastside... eventually it discontinued... would love to join anything starting up on the Eastside... I would prefer somewhere in Redmond / Kirkland / North Bellevue. Any updates? I am not able to come to SEADUG meetups due to time and travel issues to know the updates. thanks.

Thanks,
Hemant

3 hour trip

If I want to get there by 6:00, I have to leave my house on the plateau by 3:00. It's especially bad when there is a game or other event going on.

Eastside meeting location

jcost's picture

I can tell you there is never a perfect location. So I think we should go with either Robert's location in Kirkland or the Bellevue library. Both are free. I don't know about getting a projector in either place.

If Robert is willing to throw out a date that he's willing to do it in his space, that would probably be the fastest way to make this happen.

Tuesday Wednesday at 5:30

Tuesday Wednesday at 5:30 would work. Just need to schedule.

Not sure what this means

jcost's picture

Not sure what you mean to say here? Tuesday or Wednesday?

I would also suggest later than 5:30 to give people time to get off work and get there.

Up to 15 people

MrPhilbert's picture

I have a big house next to Sahalee. It would not be too much of an effort to set up my living room to accommodate up to 15 people with a 47 inch monitor for presentations.
I have a fast guest WiFi available as well.
The only issue is finding it. Everyone would need a gps.

I'll have to talk to my wife first though if people are interested.

Redmond/Sammamish location

jcost's picture

It's starting to look like most of the people would be coming from Redmond/Sammamish area. If that's the case, then it would make sense to meet up there.

Basically that means that we wouldn't get any Seattle folks since it's a long ways across for that (especially getting to the Plateau). Meeting closer to Bellevue/Kirkland may mean some would make the journey since it's not that bad of drive during rush hour.

And are people mostly just interested in getting together to talk dev stuff?

I meant to say here in

Robert Clark's picture

I meant to say here in Eastside and the best days could be Tuesday or Wednesday considering Everyone's busy schedule. Certainly after 5:30 would be even better timing.

Let us set one experimental

Let us set one experimental meeting for last week of September and see the attendance, convenience and ease/difficulty of commute.
