HI,

I am Samy a french man living and married in T&T.
I am very enthousiast about Drupal and webdesign and would like to meet with other Drupal fans in T&T.
I live in San Fernando but according to Shivan "Trinidadians have this strange culture that if an event is taking
place in south its not as important" so if you would like to help me make this meeting possible, contact me.
I am looking at an event (just a meeting in a wifi hotspot to know each other) which could take place before carnival...

This is great. It would be really nice to get together to have a meet up. I know another guy that lives in San Fernando that does Drupal....thats funny how most of the drupalers in Trinidad live in San Fernando :)

Well Carnival is next week so we can have our first meet up after that I guess. Lets work out a date here and then I'll create the official event on this group's page.

How does Febuary 28th sound for everyone? Since we are all from San Fernando, we might as well pick a location there. So i'll be open for suggestions...

I'm in San'do.

So screw the North people. We can have it in South. ;-)

Hey everybody is waking up!

samygo's picture

Hi,

I'm happy to see that we will be able to start something and yes why not in Sando first!
I'll send a message to everyone.
I already agree with some of you to meet quickly just to put a face on the user names.
According to xamount, we can also plan a drupal event in south for the end of february if it works for you all.
Let's coordinate via messages

Create standards

AugieII's picture

The first order of business ,like any organization, is to create standards. Get some sort of uniformity among Drupal developers in Trinidad and Tobago. Also, in my opinion, Drupal's power lies in distributions or as it is know to some, "installation profiles" Dries, Drupal's founder, understood this, hence he and others created a company called Acquia, and I reckon most of the revenue is from support. I think, this is direction, Drupallers in Trinidad and Yobago should head. Try and standardize Druapl's features and move from there. Collaboration not competition.

Yes, I would say support, collaborate, integrate. There are more and work projects in the region at gov. departments using drupal framework, so I would say list and monitor drupal useage around the Region in applications.

I live in St Vincent, there is no one here to share with, I also have a drupal site, (www.svgpso.org).
I also now 3 gov projects using drupal which will need support along the way....

Hi,

Some agreed to meet today (tuesday february 9th 2010) at 6pm in San Fernando (Gulf city) by Haagen Daz (close to Subway on the parking lot).
I will meet you there (i will have a laptop with a drupal sign on it). :)

It is just a little gathering, we will be able to put a face on the user names, introduce ourselves and why not plan for the bigger event .

Erm.

Drupal already has standards.

I worry when people are in a rush to create standards.

Great news Rudidaniel

Yes, you're on the right track Daniel. We need to share our experiences and knowledge with each other, it is the only way the Drupal community, in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean can go forward. And you're right, when I think about Drupal, I always, think about usage in the realm of government organizations. However, in order to properly serve government organizations there must be constant protocols, standards, documentation along the way. One of the things government organizations are most, worried about is ongoing support and modification for any application they integrate within their business process. Therefore, we must be on the top of our games, ensuring on going support.Acquia, in my opinion does a brilliant job at exploiting that model, Open Atrium also does a commendable job.

Yes and keep it simple.....remember that many consuktants are paid to set up these things and they would have left standards so u dont have to reinvent the wheel.....aslo...they are more likely to use well established international standards....which after they are gone are probably thrown under the mat....because some of the local persons left to do daily operations are probably not too advanced to understand what they should be doing and why.

I Will bet here

AugieII's picture

Samygo, I will be there, God's willing. I'll be coming with TriniKrono. I hardly bring laptops to meetings (no work gets done) lol. But, I don't think they are much laptops, in Trinidad with a Druplicon. So, yours will be easy to spot :)

good

samygo's picture

good, i'll see you there then.

I will just stick the druplicon on meh laptop :)

hey hey I'm the first one to reach home!

samygo's picture

Hey, I'm the first one to reach home from our first Drupal meeting held in South Trinidad.
We were 6 Drupal fans, and it was nice.
And we even had one Drupal fan who represented the female fraternity very well!
Rome was not built in one day and this evening we laid the foundation for a collaborative work.

All the representatives who were there this evening will be able to boast and say that they were there at the first drupal meeting when the Drupalcon is finally hosted in T&T!

It was good meeting you guys and gal!

Good meeting you as well.

Taran's picture

We even got you on Farcebook. :-P

Good meet

AugieII's picture

Yes, it was a good meet. Nice to meet new people, especially those who love and use Drupal. Looking forward to doing work, with all of you all. Thanks for a good and profitable evening.

The after-meeting pizza was good.

Taran's picture

There's a lot of potential in the group, that's for sure. And there's a lot of sub-specialties that showed as well.

I wonder what would happen if we all contributed to working on a site.

Contributed site

AugieII's picture

Yea, that would be something. If we ll worked on a website. Loads of fun, loads of productivity!

WOW...i am REALLY impressed!!

xamount's picture

WOW...i am REALLY impressed!! I got this notice too late to attend the meeting!!

How does Feb 28th sound for everyone? We can have it in south as well as its where all the Drupal action is in Trinidad :)

28th is a Sunday.

Taran's picture

We were working out dates, etc, that might work. I think Saturday might be OK, but I think someone had a problem with Saturday as well.

We'd mentioned that we can do a lot of it online and enjoy ourselves offline. For whatever reason, Tuesday seemed to work - and I don't have a problem with it.
