Hello Everyone,
From today, the tenth of September, until next week the 24th of September we're calling for candidates for the Governing Board of the Drupal Association South Africa.
We need at least five governing board members to fill essential positions.
Existing board members, unless they explicitly decline, will be included by default. Some of our existing board members have mentioned that they have upcoming family and other commitments that will make it tough to remain board members, but their commitments to DASA and the South African Drupal community means that they will serve if needed and will continue to attend DASA meetings and even if new people stand in as governing board members in their place, will continue to contribute to operational aspects and attend meetings.
The DASA meetings are open to anyone to attend and we already have non-governing board people attend regularly and contribute to the work done. Part of the reason DASA moves a bit slowly is that we make small, manageable commitments, so additional people prepared to put in their time to build a great Drupal community in South Africa will be very welcome.
As a board member you may have some fiduciary duties and while we generally work by consensus, if there's ever a need to vote on something, you have a vote to cast. Primarily though, we meet once a month to see what we can plan to do to advance Drupal in South Africa and then try to commit some of our time to affect such plans during the month.
We hope to make the voting as open as possible and execute on it here on GDoSA.
Please reply if you are prepared to serve on the governing board of DASA.
We'll contact you directly for a short biography after or around the 24th and present candidates here for voting to open on the 1st of October.
Kind regards,
Riaan
PS: Not in Johannesburg for the meetings? You can still stand for the governing board, but will have to vote by proxy or on-line and provide input through the DASA GitHub repo. Even if you just want to participate, national representation and participation is incredibly valuable so on or off the board you can always partake and help. Cape Town is especially strong right now and it would be great if we can integrate better and work more virtually.

DASA Board
Hi,
I would like to make myself available to serve on the DASA board for the coming term.
Regardless of whether I am chosen to serve on the board in a formal capacity, I would like to be involved in the Drupal community and would regularly attend DASA meetings.
Kind regards,
Renate Ehlers
Short Relevant Biography
Hello Everyone,
If you volunteered to serve on the board above, on do so before tomorrow (the deadline), please contact Freda with a short, DASA-relevant biography so long.
Just something short, one to three sentences will be enough, nothing super complete.
Maybe something personal, something Drupal and something hopeful:
I'm Riaan, 40-year-old ex teacher, lecturer, nightclubs owner, small business owner and free (libre) software and community advocate. Started using Drupal in version 4 having built own CMSes and tried several others before and switched exclusively to Drupal until the last few years revealed so many great front- and back-end frameworks to compliment Drupal. I hope to continue to contribute to building a local South African Drupal association with national value for all local Drupal users.
Kind regards,
Riaan
Stepping down
Hi,
The last year we saw a dedicated team of people, coming together, creating something truly selfless, supportive and ultimately good for Drupal in South Africa. This new baby of ours, soon started to crawl, then walk and now, after this election.. able to stand on it's own two feet.
After reflecting on my life, both personal and professional, I realised the fact that my plate as it is, is too full. As much I would like to increase the size of this plate, there is just not enough hours during the day.. or night.
So it's with great sadness that I will be stepping down as a board member at the next election. This is by no means the end of my relationship with DASA, and I will still be contributing, but in an unofficial and supportive capacity.
Kind regards
Ivan Breet
Hat Removal ...
Greetings ...
With up coming family commitments, I would like to inform the community that I don't believe I will have enough quality time available to dedicate to a fix position on the DASA board. When time permits, I will still be at meeting and helping where I can. Hoping to make as many of the Drupal Meet-Ups and DASA meetings as possible.
In other words, this is not me stepping away, but choosing my battles and positioning myself where I think I can make the most impact.
See you all there.
Thanks
LeeT
Thank you very, very much!
Ivan and Lee,
It was awesome to have you guys around the table and supporting DASA with all of us. I know you're all over the world flying next year Ivan, so can't make all the meetings and it will be easier for us to achieve a quorum if you are away. Lee, a special congratulations for your commitments, but man, you're in for a surprise ;-)
Looking forward to seeing both of you at all the DASA meetings that you can make and to all the good advice and help you always make so readily available.
Kind regards,
Riaan
Thanks a Ton
We will miss the very positive contributions that Ivan and Lee have made to DASA. Please don't make yourselves too scarce. DASA has a long way to go yet and it requires forward thinking people like yourselves to keep it relevant and progressive.
Good luck with your personal endeavours and babies.
Kind regards
Adam
