Florida DrupalCamp and PHP Women

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hey everybody,

First off - thanks for everyone who volunteered at the Florida Drupal Users' Group booth at Fossetcon Orlando!

While I was there on Friday, I picked up a flyer from PHP Women - I didn't see anyone to talk to from the organization, so I don't know too much about them other than what is on the flyer and their web site.

Regardless, I think it is important that we try to encourage and foster diversity in the Florida Drupal community and the PHP Women organization might be able to help.

I'd love for someone to step up and volunteer to take the lead in contacting this organization and seeing if they'd like to be involved in some manner with Florida DrupalCamp 2015.

In fact, if anyone knows of any other tech-related organizations that could help us foster more diversity in our community, leave a comment below and let's see what we can accomplish!

Thanks,
-mike

I spoke with Ligaya Turmelle with php women in some length and gave her our irc information. I am hoping she will drop by our channel. Of course I am happy to contact her if you have the info. I believe that Davey with Engine Yard is involved with php women.

Engine Yard and PHP Women at Fossetcon

Here is additional information in regards to the query on PHP Women and possible involvement with the Florida Drupal community.

Mr. Davey Shafik, Community Engineer at Engine Yard, represented both Engine Yard and PHP Women at Fossetcon 2014. As of this year, Davey was appointed to lead the US chapter for PHP Women helping with educational and events initiatives.

PHP Women currently support a training site under the named PHPBridge and can be found on Freenode at #PHPWomen and #PHPBridge. (I’m not positive on the IRC upper-lower case letters.)

Mr. Davey Shafik presented the Fossetcon session “Writing Faster PHP with HHVM & Hack” and spoke of the effort in progress to begin taking the PHP Women’s training session to larger camps and cons. The initial training he spoke of was for beginners. It is hands-on, 2 days, 8-hour sessions each day. At this time it is not offered online.
