SemWeb session at DrupalCon 2014 in Amsterdam?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Dear all
I wonder if there will be a session on semantic web issues at DrupalCon2014 in Amsterdam starting in about 1 week - I would be very interested and curious to learn about current projects going on, about what is planned / in implementation for Drupal8 and also provide insights about our own Drupal work at Semantic Web Company by making use / integrating PoolParty Semantic Suite..... What do people think? Best - see you in Amsterdam - Martin

PS: Also our friends from OpenLink Software (where parts of the team are located in & near Amsterdam) would be interested to discuss a possible Drupal8 integration onto the Virtuoso Triple Store....if anyone is interested in such a discussion please let me know!

I can't come to the European

I can't come to the European Drupalcon this year due to scheduling conflicts, and I'm not aware of any session on the topic of the Semantic Web, but please keep this group posted if the subject comes up in Amsterdam!

Regarding Virtuoso, Adam Shepherd contributed a patch for RDF Indexer: https://www.drupal.org/node/2029717. It allows to index your Drupal site content in Virtuoso.

Semantic Drupal

Hi Stephane,
many thanks for your feedback and what a pitty that you cannot make it to Amsterdam this time (btw we met personally in a BoF session on this topic at DrupalCon Copenhagen in 2012 - maybe you remember;) - so it seems we go for the 'semantic tagging BoF' this time but it would be great to stay in touch... I will also drop you a line directly the coming days regarding other issues I have discussed with Axel (Polleres) here in Vienna and regarding the Virtuoso guys.....cheers - Martin

Hi Martin, I'm in Amsterdam

Hi Martin,

I'm in Amsterdam for the Research Data Alliance mtg this week until Friday morning in case you might be out here early? Unfortunately I couldn't stay for Drupalcon.

I had a use case for populating Virtuoso from Drupal and found the rdf_indexer module Steph wrote a HUGE help. The basics I the patch are to leverage that work over the search API to write INSERT/DELETE queries to the /sparql-auth endpoint of Virtuoso. I've updated the patch locally to use the N-Triples serialization to write the guts of the query. I have a YouTube presentation of the work here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICCQXzPlTYg

In any case, if there's a new or better way to populate Virtuoso, I'd be very interested in the work, and would be happy to provide data or test any outcomes.

Our Virtuoso endpoint is at: http://lod.bco-dmo.org/sparq and our Drupal site populates the graph: http://www.bco-dmo.org/

OSF for Drupal

fgiasson's picture

Hi Martin and Adam,

I could recommend you to take a look at the OSF for Drupal project [1] which is the full integration of the Open Semantic Framework (OSF) [2] with Drupal. Why it matters to this thread is that Virtuoso is the current triple store used in the OSF stack. This means all the data you enter via OSF for Drupal eventually gets its way into Virtuoso, along with all the changes and revisions to that data. Multilinguality is also supported by the set of modules.

Everything is integrated via the core Drupal APIs like the Entity/Entity API, Field API and the Search API. Revisioning is also supported at the level of the Field API and the Entity API. Basically Drupal developers doesn't have to care about the backend (OSF) and they can just use Drupal as they are used to to manipulate (RDF) information. The complete documentation of OSF for Drupal is available here [3] and screencasts are available here [4].

To my knowledge, OSF for Drupal is the more advanced set of contributed modules that creates a new Field Storage System for Drupal, and that integrates all the core APIs.

OSF

Dear Fred
many thanks for that hint - I was NOT aware of! Will take a deeper look - will you be in Amsterdam too? Best regards from Vienna - martin

Hi Martin, Ok good. If you

Hi Martin,

Ok good. If you have any questions regarding it you can post them on the project's board, this forum or on the OSF mailing list.

I won't unfortunately be in Amsterdam.

Thanks

Fred

Digging deeper in OSF

kalte2707's picture

Hi againFred - after digging deeper into OSF I recognised that our CEOs Mike + Andreas know each other since a long time :)

We will take a deeper look into OSF after DrupalCon in our DrupalTeam for sure ....btw Integration of PoolParty SemanticSuite into Drupal becomes a face more + more also: http://www.semantic-web.at/drupal/ ... modules linked in left hand sidebar...
Best! Martin

Drupal and Virtuoso

Dear Adam,

thanks a lot for insights - very interesting! A pitty but I come to Amsterdam on Sunday late evening - so meeting is not possible - but I will duve deeper into the links you have sent - many thanks & best regards from Vienna - maybe we could bring all the people in this thread together for continuous knowledge exchange for a more semantic Drupal ;)

Agreed! Keep posting and feel free to get in touch with me anytime. I'd be very interested in what Virtuoso decides to do with Drupal. Email: adam (@) whoi (dot) edu or LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ashep15

BoF in Amsterdam about external metadata module

mickhinds's picture

Hi Guys,

We are hosting a BoF around our module under construction for linking Drupal with external metadata resources and using them for annotating Drupal content: https://amsterdam2014.drupal.org/bof/semantic-tags-connecting-drupal-ext...

We'll be happy to discuss different semantic web applications in Drupal and the future within this field.

Cheers,
Micke

Drupal & SemWeb at DrupalCon2014

kalte2707's picture

Hi Micke
thanks for the info - I already have this BoF on my schedule - if ok for you lets discuss this in the BoF you have organised - we have also implemented A) reegle.info ClimateTagger (just released = https://www.drupal.org/project/climate_tagger) and also our PoolParty PowerTagging that allows automated tagging on top of SKOS Thesauri (see: https://www.drupal.org/project/powertagging)...

Maybe it is more about Semantic Tagging then as e.g. publishing Linked Data out of Drupal - but this is really great if ok for you?!

Regarding the SemWeb in Drupal8 we would need anyhow somebody who knows the status and the plans and next developments....is there somebody in Amsterdam?
Looking forward to meeting you there!
Best - martin

Thanks for the reference.

fgiasson's picture

Thanks for the reference. About the Yild project, the terminology they use is really confusing. They are talking about referencing "ontologies" while in fact as far as I can see it always refers to named individuals (entities), not ontologies concepts (classes) or properties. It is true that named individuals can be defined in ontologies, but normally named individuals that are defined in an ontology are more often used as enumerations of existing specific individuals of some of the classes.

However, the way it is currently used is really to refer Drupal entities to external entities (dbpedia, freebase, etc. entities).

How ontologies should be leveraged in Drupal is like what we are doing with OSF for Drupal: using ontologies descriptions (classes and properties) to automatically generate Drupal bundle and fields [1].

That way, you can easily manage and use the ontologies to drives entities template selection by inferencing on types [2] or automatically enable facets in the Search API for all the properties used to describe your data [3] or enable inferencing during search queries [4] or to boost the search results according to ontology's description [5], etc.

Ontologies are really about how you describe your content by their types and properties, and the relationships between these types and properties.
