Hello! Thought I'd get the ball rolling - do please reply to this post with who you are and what you hope to get out of this initiative. You can edit the title, I used the format: name - role(s) - base location. Once you've posted here feel free to start a discussion topic on whatever is on your mind relevant!

I'm Steve Purkiss and I've been freelancing for fourteen years providing solutions based on FLOSS CMSs, focusing on Drupal for the last eight years - 4.6/4.7 times. With a background working for software houses - a J2EE CMS and previously RPG for AS/400s, my experience is firmly based around architecture, logic, and the back-end of systems so I am mostly hired to build install profiles and API systems for those using Drupal as a back-end for their apps.

I am here to connect to other freelancers, contractors and small businesses in order to share experience and make connections so I can continue to explore my abilities and do the work I enjoy from wherever I am so I can also satisfy my huge appetite for travel!

I am currently finishing up a couple of months break from projects which I spent learning Drupal 8 (mostly helping out porting rules actions) and attending Drupal CXO, Drupalaton and DrupalCon events. I'm currently available for projects requiring advisory/architecture/apis/anything back-end related. Ideally those happy to work with Drupal 8 but realise 7 is where it's at right now.

(Steve, I'm assuming this thread remains current even though your post was some time ago now! Someone else's turn next. Don't be shy!)

Hi, everyone. I'm J-P Stacey and I've been freelancing for just under a year, but working in web technologies for over ten years and with Drupal for over 7.5 years. I help build content-heavy websites and specialize in light-touch and rapid development, focussing on the user experience and incremental improvement, and I also do content migrations and remote API integrations; when I'm not coding, I can branch out into site and code architecting, establishing team best practice, improving process and work management, getting things done etc.

I've helped out here and there and organized events and communities like the long-running Oxford Geek Nights and also helping out with Oxford Drupal User Group, and so I'm interested in how we maintain a coherent community and voice for freelancers, while at the same time accepting that we're a disparate, ever-changing and complex group: with some key shared goals, obviously; but less coherent than a lot of communities.

Right now I'm working for a couple of clients, and tend to work on small projects on a rolling basis. When I transition to new clients in November, I'm also going to try to set aside time to help out with Open Drupal as I've promised that for some time now. But I hope to be able to pop my head in here every now and again and contribute where I can.
